Obama criticized for flubbing name of medal of honor winner

...
Mr. Obama on Thursday praised the troops from the 10th Mountain Division and said it was an honor to award a Medal of Honor to one of their own who was still alive.

"I had the great honor of seeing some of you because a comrade of yours, Jared Monti, was the first person who I was able to award the Medal of Honor to who actually came back and wasn't receiving it posthumously," Mr. Obama told the troops in Fort Drum, New York, home of the 10th Mountain Division.

Monti was, in fact, killed in 2006 and Mr. Obama posthumously awarded him the Medal of Honor in 2009 in a White House ceremony with his parents. Salvatore Giunta is the first living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam war. Mr. Obama awarded Giunta the Medal of Honor in a White House ceremony last year.

Asked about the embarrassing slip, RNC chair Reince Priebus said "people make mistakes but ... when he is not scripted, mistakes seems to happen."

"I think the president is a scripted, plasticized candidate and I think America is prepared to relieve him of his job in 2012," Priebus said in an interview with CBS News.

Shades of Richard Nixon....

Why not just ask for a resolution of support from Congress? That is what McCain has been asking for. That would end the constitutional debate.

Ad hominem troll at its simplest, will attack people personally, rather than the merits of their statements or methodologies.

The ad hominem troll often has already lost a rational argument about a topic, and thus its goal is to change the argument from being about a topic, to being about the people opposed to the troll (which could mean any/all rational person(s) in the discussion), in the hopes of both discrediting people's ideas indirectly by discrediting the people, and engendering an emotional reaction from the people by attacking their egos / self-image. The "getting a reaction out of" goal is common to most troll types.

The simple ad hominem troll is easily detected and dealt with by calling them on their ad hominem attacks.

Boring old illicit street drugs like pot aren't part of the way cool way to tune in, turn on, and drop out, any more. They're not antiestablishment. Yep. I was trying to be careful to not come out against recreational drugs, just like I'm not against recreational gambling. It's the methodology: Vegas, Juarez, whatever.

Justice Dept. untruthful about Fast & Furious, ATF agents tell Congress

    June 15, 2011

The Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) yesterday released a report, "The Department of Justice's Operation Fast and Furious: Accounts of ATF Agents," that is sure to infuriate law enforcement officers and American citizens across the country.

The at time shocking report includes testimony from four Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) agents offering firsthand accounts about the controversial Operation Fast and Furious that allowed suspects to walk away with illegally purchased guns.

Two of the approximately 2,000 guns that ATF let criminals walk away with were found at the murder scene of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.
    ...

"ATF agents have shared chilling accounts of being ordered to stand down as criminals in Arizona walked away with guns headed for Mexican drug cartels," said Rep. Issa.  "With the clinical precision of a lab experiment, the Justice Department kept records of weapons they let walk and the crime scenes where they next appeared.  To agents' shock, preventing loss of life was not the primary concern."

    ...

While President Barack Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder denied knowledge of the operation, according to law enforcement sources, the rationale for the operation that went awry was that Attorney General Holder and his staff at the Justice Department wanted to show proof of his, and other Obama administration officials', statements that the majority of firearms used by Mexican drug cartels originated in the United States and are smuggled into that drug war-torn country.

Global Small Arms Treaty threatens your right to self defense

    Thursday, May 27, 2010

American gun owners might not feel besieged, but they should. This week, the Obama administration announced its support for the United Nations Small Arms Treaty. This international agreement poses real risks for freedom both in the United States and around the world by making it more difficult - if not outright illegal - for law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms.
