The archives say Obama didn't take classified documents. The trump administration and his highly partisan Attorney General didn't say anything, do any investigation, or even bring it up until trump got caught.

So, no, it didn't happen and even if it did, there is no reason not to go after trump with the full force of the laws that he broke. Especially since trump says he wants to run again and do it all over.

It’s easy to search for more specifics, but this is not a small deal, and it’s unprecedented. So, the guy who had no political experience took top secret government documents home - for what reason, we have yet to know. But there’s no argument about this. (Security cameras were there; so there was no planting of evidence.)

Specifics from NYT: F.B.I. agents seized 11 sets of documents in all, including some marked as “classified/TS/SCI” — shorthand for “top secret/sensitive compartmented information,” according to an inventory of the materials seized in the search. Information categorized in that fashion is meant to be viewed only in a secure government facility.…
In January, Mr. Trump turned over to the National Archives 15 boxes of material he had improperly taken with him when he left office. The archives subsequently identified classified material in the boxes and referred the matter to the Justice Department, which later convened a grand jury.

But as the results of Monday’s search appeared to show, other government material remained at Mar-a-Lago. Why Mr. Trump did not return it along with the 15 boxes he gave to the archives in January is not clear. But at some point, the Justice Department learned about it, and it issued a subpoena this spring demanding the return of some materials.

The existence of the subpoena suggests that the department tried methods short of a search warrant to account for the material before taking the politically explosive step of sending F.B.I. agents unannounced to Mar-a-Lago.

Apology accepted.

As I have been reading up on the PRA I have been learning more about the process which only became fully operational with Reagan going forward.

Looks good on paper, but and it is a big but, at least to me ... That compliance seems to be unsupervised and 100% on the honor system.

It would seem that total compliance would involve the entire staff of the outgoing administration to leave the building(s) with only the clothes on their backs, leaving everything else behind.  This is not the case and I am not aware of any mechanism that overseas the exit process.  In other words, we don't know what we don't know.  How do we know that all covered documents and artifacts are left behind as dictated by law ?  Who packs up what ?

.
As far as the stuff at MAR, what about the Secret Service presence there ?  Surely they take actions to make the proper security arrangements for known items in question.  Or not.

I guess that we all will learn more, or at least I hope so, about this process.

A good Q & A about the documents matter. It seems that even if convicted of crimes pertaining to federal laws regarding protection of government documents and property, Trump might not be disqualified from holding  a federal office in the future.

I have never stated that every politician except Trump is utterly innocent. They're not. Trump, however, takes corruption to astronomical heights. Also, it's become(ing) blatantly obvious that he has, in fact, committed extremely serious crimes. Justice must be applied. At this point he's a flight risk and should be arrested immediately. All this falls on deaf ears, but there it is.

Seeking to deflect attention from reports that the classified documents he had kept in his Florida home might have contained materials related to nuclear weapons, former President Donald J. Trump claimed on Friday that his predecessor, Barack Obama, had done the same thing.

“President Barack Hussein Obama kept 33 million pages of documents, much of them classified,” Mr. Trump said in a statement. “How many of them pertained to nuclear? Word is, lots!”
