I was reading an article in my New Jersey Sunday paper about implementing off shore wind farms and the need for ports that can handle the logistics of shipping turbines out to sea. One of the things that stood out for me was there are 3 developers that are competing to build the wind farms and all 3 were foreign companies. I'm sure there will be jobs for Americans in this developing industry, but thought that there were no American developers competing for the work to be curious.

Noticeably absent:  higher excise taxes on gasoline and diesel.

Perhaps kurster will explain to us how President Trump will increase excise/green/Pigouvian taxes on popular, polluting fossil fuels.  After all, America, at her exceptional best, enjoys (sic) the lowest excise taxes on gasoline and diesel among the rich OECD members.

Or perhaps kurster can explain to us why American voters are so much smarter than American experts and voters in other rich, OECD countries.

With only about 5 more years left in this body, it is unlikely to have much of an impact on me.

I do hope that I live long enough to see the shock of the gimme, gimme / instant gratification culture when they find out when aircraft are gone, their 2nd day / next day delivery of their stuff is gone, too.  High speed trains can move people but not freight.  2nd week delivery might be the best you can get.  And then to electrify the entire railroad system ... there ain't enough copper to do it.  No nuclear, no petroleum to fuel the electric grid.  Yeah, solar and wind can do it all.  Uh, huh.  Deforest the planet to replace / retrofit all buildings ?

No more planes is just one aspect of this thing.  There is plenty more to discuss.

Edit:  There was a reply to this from another peep who requested that this thread should be deleted and they have already deleted that post.  This is a topic that will not go away.  The 2020 campaign will be mostly about this and little else.  Nearly all of the declared candidates for POTUS have endorsed this already.  This is where they want to take this country to and they are as serious as a heart attack about this.  This is our collective future.  Once the laughter of disbelief is over, there is no laughing about any of this.  The mask is indeed off.

Or it could be discussed only in the Democratic Party thread and kept there.  That would keep the discussion partisan for sure rather than maybe partisan.

Or it could be discussed in this old thread ...

Despite what your friends on Fox want to tell you, the Green New Deal is a nebulous collection of idealistic proposals, not pending legislation; as it is written now, very little of it will ever be voted into being.  The concept is over ten years old but many environmental groups and researchers have deemed much of the recent proposal "unrealistic".  Even your buddy Nancy Pelosi gave its signatories the cold shoulder.  Many of the "quotes" from it that are floating around the web are likely from altered versions as well.  Relax, Kurt, planes will not be eliminated in any near future.  It is, however, a good talking point for Trump and his loyalists to use as a misdirection.  I doubt the 2020 campaign will be much about this, despite the GOP's wishes to make it so.  The Democratic campaign will mostly be about health care and the odiousness of Trump.
This seems more like asking for pie-in-the-sky when they really want a few cupcakes.  Their assertiveness reminds me of the Tea Party - they're proposing a lot of things, some of which may come into some sort of being, but many of which will remain talking points.  Maybe 40 years hence things will be different, but for now, any major legislation generally needs the approval of the majority of the voting populace.
