People are strange, when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange
When you're strange
When you're strange
People are strange, when you're a stranger

Great segue from Steven Wilson "Self" to "People Are Strange". If you haven't seen the video for "Self" I recommend it. (@BillG previously recommended it in his comments.) It's awesome.

Such a great song
If Jim thought people were strange back then what would he say now?
EXCELLENT!! Thanx RP!
this is one of those bands that I used to love but now I can't stand. Maybe I've just heard too much of them. Strange how that happens.

Echo & the Bunnymen do a decent cover of this.

@BillG - kindly disregard this request....thanks. Long Live RP and the Lizard King!!
The only Doors song I've ever heard that's actually entertaining to listen to. Jim Morrison's half-drunk bad lounge-singer voice is perfect for the instrumentals and overall theme. Sounds like something you'd hear in the Blue Room Lounge at the Holiday Inn outside of Fresno in the late 70's. You can play this one again, Bill. Keep the rest of the insipid, drolling Doors repertoire to yourself, thanks.

Classic.
One of my favorite Doors songs- observations by Morrison after an all night acid party at Andy Warhol's

A perfect summary of the Doors, actually.
My favorite song when I was 6 years old
Remids me of the days back at SIU during halloween weekend! Both the song and the cover art.
Good Halloween album cover... but even on this Hallowed Day, can't like the Doors. Vile!
Every day I walk to work past where they shot that cover picture - havent seen any circus people yet...

Yeah, Jim even said Robby was great. I think that was after he punched Robbie in the eye, though.
Q - Didn't you appear with a black eye onstage at one point? What was that all about?
A - Oh yeah. I got into a fight with Jim. They wanted to put makeup on, but I said no, maybe 20 years from now somebody will be interested and ask me about that.
Q - Now there's a question you don't get asked too much.
A - Believe it or not, that's one of the most asked questions, (laughs) Everybody always thinks I'll ask him about that. Somebody just asked me about that the other day.

One of their best. It's funny, because when I was younger, I had only heard Echo & the Bunnymen's version of this song, because all I listened to was college radio. Once I hit actually hit college, I started listening to older classic stuff & heard the original (and much better) version. Jim's great, but so are the rest of the band. Robby's guitar work is VERY underrated, in my opinion.

To elaborate... maybe it's all the hype around Morrison as a "poet," but I just don't see it.
Manzarek is an interesting chap and a great musician, but that doesn't save the band.
Maybe it's just that I feel like Morrison had read far too much of his own press... he released a lot of stuff that I think many others would have left on the cutting room floor. "Come on baby light my fire?" Please.
Sorry, I don't get it. Shoot me now, I know I have blasphemed.
obviously you weren't around yet, but that's the way people talked then. I too, have always known that Morrison was shitty poet, but at least he had the guts to say what before had been kept silent.
Tame by today's standards, but he was in serious trouble with the obscenity police. Killed him.
Killed him.
BTW "light my fire" was written by Robbie Krieger, guitar god.

I've never rated The Doors, but I do like this song.
I've always like the lyrical content and melodies of this band...they definately had their own defined sound.
I like the Doors but thay are hardly the best rock band ever, that would be "The Masked Marauders".

I'm not much of a Doors fan but I do like the remixed "Strange Days" on the Thievery Corporation's "Versions".
This is the only Doors song I can tolerate.
Thank you, thank you for following up Geo. Winston's somnolent "Crystal Ship" with real Doors.

sorry about the format...first post. I'll work on it.
p.s. Hi y'all
Aw come on Lar. It's in the mix. It's Halloween. It's The Doors. Ride the wave my man. Classic rock lives here too. It's all good.
I'm always a little bummed out when I hear a tune on rp that I can hear on any classic rock radio station
Its just not why I tune in to RP
Echo and the Bunnymen's version would get a if it were here... their version has an extended instrumental break which ironically makes it even more "Doorsy"!
Everyone has to relax, the Doors are clearly the greatest band in the history of rock. Just gotta get away from the "best of"...
Soft Parade, Ship of Fools, Wishful Sinful, Summer's Almost Gone, The Spy, The Ghost, Soul Kitchen, Tell All the People, Hyacinth House, The Wasp, Maggie M'Gill, Wintertime Love, Indian Summer, The Changeling, AND THE LIST GOES ON!

The doors are self-indulgent pub-blues. Jim Morrison's voice is bland at best. Unfortunately I own the best of which I bought under the assumption they may at least be a good band. However, I am yet to hear a doors song that could grip me. Its passionless, dour and insular crap of the highest order. Jim was looking in a mirror when he wrote this one.... trust me.
this song reminds me of walking through the French Quarter for some reson.
It may be all the strange people down there 8)
I just love watching people squirm as they relate the music to the person.
Jim was a trip. Granted. Jim was seriously F\'ed up. Also, granted. If you can\'t relate to the scene then fine, listen to something you can relate too. Lawrence Welk was still quite popular when this song was written....
Speaking of F\'ed up, has anybody heard Morrisons Lament by Jimi Hendrix? Its on his Live at the Matrix cd.
How about spinning the Brave Combo version?
I'm with ali and Kevin -- I never did understand why the Doors appealed to the masses the way they did (or still do). They just weren't that interesting musically. I know many people love Morrison's lyrics, but they never did the trick for me, especially presented the way he did. There always seems to be a handful of extremely popular bands that can't play or sing -- Nirvana is another example. (And I wrote this before "All Apoologies" was played on RP today.)
I'm guessing Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain have formed a new garage band for the next astral plane somewhere. And they probably still suck, IMHO.
finestkind
It\'s one of those rare rainy, cold, and miserable in Southern California -- perfect weather for this song.
:)
Needs to be played in the dark, with weird lighting. Ideally, a neon sign flickering outside the motel window.

Echo & the Bunnymen do a decent cover of this.
