If you can play on the fiddle
How about a British jig and reel?
Speaking King's English in quotations
As railhead towns feel the steel mills rust
Water froze in the generation
Clear as winter ice
This is your paradise
There ain't no need for ya
There ain't no need for ya
Go straight to hell, boys
Go straight to hell, boys
Wanna join in a chorus of the Amerasian blues?
When it's Christmas down in Ho Chi Minh City
Kiddie say, "Papa, papa, papa-san, take me home
See, me got photo, photo, photograph of you and
Mama, mama, mama, mama, mama-san
Photo of you and mama, mama-san"
Let me tell you 'bout your blood, bamboo kid
It ain't Coca-Cola, it's rice
Straight to hell, boy
Straight to hell, boy
Go straight to hell, boy
Go straight to hell, boys
Oh, papa-san, please take me home
Oh, papa-san, everybody wanna go home
So mama-san says
"Wanna play mind-crazed banjo on the druggy-drag ragtime USA?
In Parkland International, Junkiedom USA
Where Procaine proves the purest rock man groove and rat poison"
The volatile Molotov says
"Straight to hell"
Can you really cough it up loud and strong?
The immigrants wanna sing all night long
It could be anywhere, most likely, it could be any frontier
Any hemisphere
No man's land
There ain't no asylum here
King Solomon, he never lived 'round here
Go straight to hell

Weird. Take a jagged, searing track and sing it in a breathy, pretty boy voice without any of the the syncopation and swing.
Keeper.
Got to hand it to them for giving it their own spin; I agree that I like the original better but that doesn't mean I don't like this one. It's caused me to check out the new album and hear the rest of their covers.
Feel like I dropped acid and I'm back in 1984.....what a strange experience...lyrics still very questionable in 2026..
I do love me some Dandys, but I feel like this is a weaker cover from the album. Maybe Goo Goo Muck or Love Song would be better here on RP?
can't cover a gem like this
Based on the other comments, maybe I only like this because I'm not familiar with the The Clash version. But in isolation, this is pretty cool, and sadly topical in these times.
I suppose it's a nice compliment to the original artist to cover a song, but I'm thinking maybe this is one of those songs that you just don't cover.
The Clash original is one of the best songs ever written both being of its time and place, and timeless. Hope people go listen to the original :-)
might as well be Muzak

I much prefer the Clash's version of this, which seems more impactful and to the point about the fate of Amerasian kids born during the Vietnam War.
I often wonder if aging bands redo songs for ratings or if it is really for the musical art. This is a slower and softer remake.. It seems lest impactful. Is this a sign of the times?

Just for info - the original does get played on RP occasionally
