Everyone is trying
To get into the bar
The name of the bar
The bar is called Heaven
The band in Heaven
They play my favorite song
Play it once again
Play it all night long
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
There is a party
Everyone is there
Everyone will leave
At exactly the same time
It's hard to imagine
That nothing at all
Could be so exciting
Could be so much fun
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
Heaven
Heaven is a place
A place where nothing
Nothing ever happens
When this kiss is over
It will start again
It will not be any different
It will be exactly the same
It's hard to imagine
That nothing at all
Could be so exciting
Could be this much fun

Six months in, and I’m still conflicted about this cover. I still think it’s kind of flat, emotionally, but when it played this morning I felt compelled to bump the volume a bit. There’s some intensity even in the flatness. Sigh.
nope. i'll take heads, please.
Has me long to hear the original, that is all.

In my opinion, the best version of this song is the one from Stop Making Sense. It just sounds so good stripped down, just David and Tina.
Thanks for the reminder. I realized I have Stop Making Sense on vinyl but not digital and haven’t listened to it in years. I also saw them on that tour in ‘83, which still ranks near the top of the live shows I’ve seen. Time to hook up the turntable, I guess.

The Icehouse version got played last week. I still like the original by TH better, but the Icehouse version has a great feel to it whereas The National’s version seems a bit flat emotionally. I like the drum intro, though.

thought it was Bowie..
Might not be quite so bad if it wasn't played literally yesterday...
C'mon folks you're better than this...

This is definitely a solid "meh".

So true. The Ice House cover blows away all covers and the original besides. So sorry that William stopped playing it.

hunh...cool, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anyway, whoever sings this song, because of it's beauty, if they do it it's an accolade!
This should be better.
Really like the drums on this.

Ok ok ... I see it is a TRIBUTE album ... Saddest version of this song ... sadly .. :)
Why does everyone feel the need to re make this song...
WTF

Great song, but this is a pretty uninspired cover.

Not bad--it sounds like Matt Berninger is trying to sing like David Byrne, which sounds pretty good. But I'd kind of rather hear him sing this song like Matt Berninger, and take it down an octave.
This is one of the weakest TH songs in my opinion. The National could have picked a better one for their tribute.

I'm digging this cover. And what it conveys to me the most in hearing it is how good a song this is on its own merit. Hearing it from a different artist
(done well helps imo) makes one appreciate this aspect even more I think.

I always prefer the original above the national

This song is not on the TH album but Byrne and Weymouth perform it in the film.
This is sort of cool, I guess. I love both Talking Heads and The National. I didn’t like this cover when I first heard it last night but I’m finding it ‘catchier’ on second listening.
I’m curious about the other songs on this tribute album. I reeeeaaaly hope RP plays the badbadnotgood/Norah Jones collaboration that is apparently on it. BBNG is a fave of mine.

Nice to hear Matt Beminger's voice on this cover - gives Byrne's wry classic a soulful twist.
Wow, that’s Matt Berninger’s voice?! Cool.
Wow! I love it all.
