Strong art Garfunkel vibe to this one. Not my fave. I appreciate Ray’s range of sounds and songs. True artist.

I wonder if Ray is happy. Love his music (this one a lot), much frisson-inducing stuff going on. But his mood seems near depressed.
The opening riff is definitely reminiscent of Thomas Dolby's "Airwaves". Which would be a good one to hear on RP.
Such beautiful chord changes.....
This song should never be played intentionally during daylight hours; just by playing it, you could put a high meth addict right to sleep.... Great execution, and ridiculously talented folks, but Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
Blah....
Blah....
An excellently produced album and Ray is fantastic...
Half of the song is enough.

Outstanding. I feel sorry for all the old farts in this thread who won't/can't allow themselves to let go and be mesmerized by the aural magic this guy weaves. FYI, I'm an old fart too- but I refuse to let my musical tastes calcify. Great music was made in the 70's, but also every decade since. And by great I mean Truly Great. Like this track.

I wish someone would have shown him the feathers.
Most excellent choice Bill!
Thank you!
Thank you!
Good tune!

If heard in the distance, could be a Simon & Garfunkel deep cut.
I like this well enough, but I'd really like to hear Ray evolve a bit...even the Beatles decided that they needed to keep pushing the boundaries of their music, and they were fairly popular.../s
I love just about everything I hear on RP, and I appreciate the fact that the Goldsmiths have introduced me to many performers I'd never heard before. But one performer that I just don't get is Ray LaMontagne... and Bill seems to play Ray's music more than any other artist's, on both the Main and Mellow mixes! Please Bill... he's just not that good or original.

I'll remember this song for the next time I can't get to sleep; other than that; No thank you Ray...
Great voice, but what a sleeper...!

I like this, but it's a shadow of the work he produced on his 1st album. That had some outstanding tracks.
This song exudes a radioheadish somnolence. Turn it up, close your eyes, and feel it...
His music is good, but it all sounds the same. It bores me now.

Really good song....kind of surreal. Makes me feel tranquil.

Heartily seconded by Another Old Fart. One of my favorite songs from him, after "Be Here Now". Ethereal in so many ways.
Usual snorefest from him, but on a positive note, sounds like he's taken the cotton balls out of his mouth.

I was on a fourth date with a very sweet woman. We were sitting around her apartment talking and she suggested putting on some music. I put on The Shins, which was great for background but it wasn't very inviting. The next playlist was this album. When this song came on, the entire mood shifted in a very positive way. We both just relaxed and allowed the seduction of his voice to work its magic. You can imagine where all that sensuality led!
One or two tracks on the album are a bit harsh compared to this mood, but I strongly recommend adding this to any intimate playlist.
Thanks Ray (& Bill for introducing me to almost all of my music for over 13 years!)

Such a great songwriter and musician. Yet, such a distant, unfriendly presence in concert and in person. He is so introverted and into the music he can't relate to those outside him, which makes his live presence like listening to a record with a crowd around. Disappointing but his work is still perfection.

It's a different chord progression and different overall melody, but there are some similarities to that song and a clear similarity to the Simon & Garfunkel style in this song. Weak lyrics.
Very soothing and atmospheric. Easy 9. Not for the non-music lover (U2 fans) though.
Extremely overplayed and overrated garbage. PSD PSD.

A bit too much of this guy on air... :-/ When I hear his weak voice I get... bored, to say at least.
Elicits memories of late nights sitting around the bong listening to early "underground" radio stations in the early 1970's, hearing Pink Floyd's DSotM for the first time. "Quicksilver Girl" by the Steve Miller Band also comes to mind. Now if I can only find that stash I hid about ten years ago......
Reminds me of Simon & Garfunkel a bit

It seems that very little ultimately happens in this track. It's the a repetitive chorus and melody. Mr. LaMontagne does little for me on this or other tracks.

This is how I like my Ray L. Harks back to the mellow cuts on Till The Sun Turns Back and Gossip In The Grain. He's decent at R&B, as well as alt-country (Pariah Dogs), but to my ears his best work is the quieter side.

I too have stopped twice now from what I'm doing to listen more carefully to the instrumentation, especially the piano and to see who's singing. This is only the second time I've heard it and am already considering bumping it from a 7 to 8.
Most of the time Ray's singing turns me off, but some of his work is breathtakingly beautiful. E.g. this one.
Mesmerizing and unique are words that come to my mind to describe his sounds and lyrics. Would have been wonderful in the 70's. Is wonderful now!
