I said no hun, I'm your drain
She said baby you're my color
I said no babe I'm your stain
I said baby you're my diamond
She said no babe, just your pick
I said baby you are magic
She said no jun, just a trick

She said baby you can see me
I said baby i just sense

I said baby you're my lover
She said no hun, just your maid
I said baby i adore you
She said no babe, you're just afraid

Love the Black Pumas. Can you play some of their other stuff?
Another eclectic RP gem…to really get how amazing this song is, check out the Youtube video. I won’t spoil it here but it changed everything for me
funny, i cannot connect the voice to the artist - checked out the link someone posted and it was still somewhat odd to view. like the lyrics enough to start with a 6 but still see a different singer in my head...will see if this changes with time
Eurovision-worthy!
This is a great tune. A perfect RP choice.  Unique, unusual brilliance.

I love this enough to stop whatever I'm doing, turn up the volume and immerse in it when it comes on, but doesn't make me download it and have it on my playlist (and I do download a lot of tracks due to RP's intros)
That's what I think is a good fit for Radio Paradise.

Yep. Very good! Thanks for the link.
you have to experience himself life, he is excellent and unique

HHB (haven't heard before).
Iss good.

OHMAHGAH!!! Thanks for the recommend!!!

That is not judgmental at all. You know what else sucks? People who stop to trash an artist rather than skip the song. Is that judgmental?
Amazing artist! First time I'm hearing him played on RP.

After many years finally saw him perform in Brussels this year, could barely see through the tears

I'm sorry, but what??

Wow, thanks, that was awesome.

I like it.  Makes me stop and listen.   More Asaf Avidan please.

if he is, he certainly is not close
can't figure why it is a concern frankly
Wait 'til they hear Coheed And Cambria or Michael Mills covering Wuthering Heights in her key
seems some think he's trying to sound like someone else, he's got his very own unique sound. If you can't hear that, find some easy listening channel. It'll give you peace of mind

Yes, 3 words into the song and I was thinking of Janis too.  Otherwise, the song does not sound at all like it was inspired by Janis.

That's a MAN baby!
good song, but  the vocals....
Never heard of this gent. I'd like to hear more before I make my mind up. So far, quite likeable.
Fingernails on blackboard.
Bumping this up to 8. Digging this tonight.

Oh, sorry.
”You’re not different enough!”
Sure, sorry.

Agreed.  This material fits the rotation really well, I think.

I would consider that a compliment to any artist, well, almost...

Check out Colter Wall (if you haven't already).  Listen first, then find a picture or video of the dude.  The incongruity between the man and the voice is so striking that it gives the impression that the voice must be an affect, but even repeated listening (without watching) doesn't rankle, so... does it matter?

He's not trying to sound like Janis Joplin; you're trying to classify who he sounds like and you've decided to shoehorn him into an imperfect Janis Joplin impersonation. Asaf has, to American ears, a unique singing style that is probably not out of place in more traditional music circles. His song Her Lies (see link below), right before the end, has a vocal section that is obviously powerful & skillful, but may be quite off-putting for those that are unused to that way of singing.

Asaf could probably put a hell of a twist on a Janis tune, but I think he would take the wise route and avoid imitation.

Well, I'm voting for the cat but I happen to know that the singer is a male.

His song Her Lies (music starts at 1:31) is very passionate. I get why people don't like his voice (the end of that song would probably be painful for those that don't), but I think it is powerful & full of emotion. That said, I would love to hear this by someone with a more traditional singing style, if only to have the naysayers appreciate his music a bit more.
Such a great voice!  Reminds me so much of Janice Joplin.  Need more of this artist!!! Love it.
sounds quite a bit like a dull cover of Danger Mouse, Daniele Luppi - Two Against One ft. Jack White
I'm liking it.
She's sounds like Britanny Howard after a hard night of smoking and drinking
Wow, 3 years since the last play.  I dig this tune.  I happen to like HIS voice.
Nothing new about slings and arrows for unusual and original artists. Carry on Asaf!

I'd prefer to call them a bunch of wankers, but that's just me as a bitter American who blames a large part of current global recession on greedy bankers screwing people to line their own pockets.
Loving the guitar
Stunningly good. A shock on the vocal gender progenitor, but still stunningly good.

Hearing a bit of Jack White vocally.

That poor, poor cat.
indeed!  totally diggin the bass lines {#Cowboy}

Like it more each time I hear it.  Bumped it to an 8.
"banker", "anchor" - that just calls out for another rhyming word... :o)

Clue: a group of financial suits is often known as a 'wunch', as in 'a wunch of bankers'.

As for the song, this guy's voice just gives me earache after a while :(

Bet Asaf can do killer covers of Jack White.

Wow. very good. immediate 8.

                               ?
Ok Bill... you got me.  I usually complain about the dudes that sing like chicks, but I kinda like this one.
this sounded like the singer was using the facilities (loo) during the recording... {#Whisper}

Whole lotta SOUL!

nope...nice song just hate the voice.
Great song!
His voice is really annoying to my ears.
To reiterate:  Asaf Avidan is a HE, not a SHE.  'Cept, I can't think of a male vocalist to which to compare his voice - he really does sound like Janis... {#Undecided}

Asaf is kinda hot, too. Not crazy about the haircut, but the rest...yeah.

wow, love this sound. Breaking passionate tremulous shouting voice, mellow, laid back vibe, is she chanelling Janis Joplin perhaps?
Reminded me of Sinead O'Connor for some reason. Anyway, I liked it.
Goddamnit I love this. Thanks Bill for yet another fine introduction. Radio Paradise powers my life.
Yet another welcome intro to more interesting stuff by our gracious hosts. Thanks RP

Love it....gotta hear more from her

So freaking cool - I love this whole CD. . .
...this hurts my ears.
Not fond of this.
I'm not a huge Janis fan, but I really like this for some reason.  The voice fits somehow, like the rough edge over the smooth melody adds a tonal quaility that rescues this song from being almost boring.  However, the music sounds like it is never really supposed to be the star of the song, but instead just support for the vocals.

waaooo !!! Asaf Avidan in radio paradise ...

you are the best people!

thank you all !

I am so digging this guy. Blew my mind to find out he's a guy who, when he speaks, has a regular sounding guy voice but when he sings he sounds like an old black woman. Very hip!

Weasels rip my vocal cords.
dudes belting out the passion....gotta love this drippy sensual passion...wish I could sing like this. without restraints.

wow, thanks RP, for turning me on to this. you rock.
quit playing the jack white record at 45! :P
