Extracting overconfidence
Hidden so easy to pretend
Too bad the rush was found again
I can see the pictures on the floor
Sketches of what was there before
Three came from one little seed
The last one is all I need
I can see the bottle on the ground
We turned the corner safe and sound
No thought of him as it was done
A clean execution
A clean execution
Cool like the ocean
Burned like a summer home
Fooled by the notion
That the sums don't add up at all
There's the line that is leading
Clearly feeding all the things I don't believe in
But I'll step in once again
Cut in line to get closer
To the source of all the things I'll never belong to
Step it up and sign right in
Again
Cool like the ocean
Burned like a summer home
Fooled by the notion
That the sums don't add up at all
Cool like the ocean
Burn like a summer home
Fooled by the notion
That the sums don't add up at all
That the sums never add up at all
That the sums don't add up at all
Cool vibe. This song really grows on you. Even on first listen.
The whole album is great and keeps revealing more as you listen more.
4-20, baby! Boulder Theater; sold-out -- got mine; CAN'T WAIT!
So how was it?!
...unlike my ex wife....
I can't believe this song is 17 years old already..it takes me places... didn't expect those places to be so far in the past though...
i love this comment. i'm also bumping up my rating to an 8. really dig this song.
they also have the best album art.
The Shins-Spilt needles. Porcupine Tree-Start of something beautiful & now this also wonderful track. I'm trying to get out of the house and go to work. Finding it hard to leave RP.
Take RP with you with the mobile app! That's what I do -- you can download hours of sets and playback at work or in car -- fantastic for long road trips too. Worth contributing $$ to RP if for no other reason than the download & playback feature with the app.
Oh, I get it now! It's about a Cinderella team in March Madness who earned a #3 seed and Chevy is using this song to promote their new Silversun pickup along with a new shoe product but they spelled Converse incorrectly.
Great song nonetheless!
It's about a person reluctantly facing the consequences of the "3 Strikes" law after participating in a murder.
"Too bad the rush was found again"
If Billy Corgan's voice sounded like this, I'd listen to more Smashing Pumpkins
In 1998 I achieved a bucket-list item and saw Bauhaus in concert in Chicago. Peter Murphy's voice, as usual, was transcendent. Billy Corgan, being a local Chicago guy, must have been a fan and was allowed to come out on stage and sing a song. As I heard the two voices, virtually side-by-side, I couldn't help but compare his voice to Peter Murphy's. I wasn't quite a fan of Billy Corgan and definitely was less so after hearing him sing next to a true master. As a positive,
it's 2022 as I write this, and Bauhaus is now back on tour! : )
Great song nonetheless!
Love this but too much distortion, though could be my system?
Notice on some other tunes as well. Seems that the world eclectic mix has the least or some of the best production. Just a thought.
Eh, that's just the Silversuns' sound.

Make love <3

ABSOLUTELY!
Thanks for clarifying that.
Agreed!
Agreed!
Everybody in my mushrooming multitude of galactic presidential campaigns loves this song... GREAT guitar work... hope life is grand for you right this minute, Limpopoking... we be dancing like bowlegged gypsy muleskinners, and we be losing it... we love sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll... Radio Paradise is the best radio station in the nearest 243,000 galaxies...
?? Don't get that at all!
The bass line is almost identical to "The World I Know".
Guitar and drums work perfectly in this piece. From what I have heard so far the rest of the album is just as good.
Keep it up!
He is so fun to watch in concert - dynamic! Love the hair flowing...well, it used to.
Right there with you.
my thoughts exactly!
ymmv, and does, I reckon.

I don't.
At least Carlin had the courage to stare into the face of nothingness, and call it for what it was. Okay, you can trash me now.
I welcome your opinion, obviously diametrically opposed to Zepher's.
As an agnostic, I am fascinated by both arguments, while not fully convinced of either.
If anything I lean a little more toward the WonderLizard side of the fence.
There are just a few too many things about creationism (not to mention the whole Noah's ark thing) that are tough to accept.
As a scientist, I find that intelligent design is overwhelmingly evident.
There is a museum in Kentucky which dates the skeleton of a tyrannosaurus rex at roughly 4,000 BCE, asserting that it and the rest of the dinosaurs perished in Noah's flood. This is the inevitable outcome of "intelligent design," a thinly disguised, faith-based effort to foist Christian creationism, decidedly non-fact based, into public education, with the goal of replacing a pluralistic society with one that is exclusively Christian. There are many parallels between it and the Muslim quest to turn the world into one Islam-based.

I've watched Carlin since I was a boy, but his Atheist viewpoint is flat out wrong. Faith not tested isn't trustworthy.

Same here. 7 to 8 with this listen.
Genesis 38:9—
And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
This one is getting better every time I hear it!
It helps if you imagine that he's a guy.
Great song - 10 in my book.
It's an unchick's man's voice. The tenor or pitch of which makes me hit the PSD.

Welcome to the Masturbate-a-thon
Did you know that May is National Masturbation Month? It was originally declared in 1995 by Good Vibrations — a San Francisco shop specializing in sex toys, erotic books and adult videos — after Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn Elders was fired by Bill Clinton for responding to a question about masturbation at a UN conference, “I think that is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught” in the context of sex education classes. Ironically, the president never had intercourse with Monica Lewinsky, but rather, she testified, after she performed incomplete fellatio, he would masturbate into the sink in the Oval Office bathroom, not to mention ejaculating onto her blue dress...
and if you believe that the tooth fairy and the easter bunny are getting it on in baby bear's bed....
So weird. I was in a different application, and this song started and I KNEW it was Silversun Pickups. And I thought I'd commented on it, but I hadn't, so here it is - I LOVE this song. I love this band. I love this sound. Tax return is forthcoming, and much music will be purchased - this CD will be one of them. Thank you, RP. You feed my soul in ways you'll probably never know...
?? Don't get that at all!
I can almost hear it but I never would have thought of that personally. I hear so much Smashing Pumpkins I can't hear anything else in there. I saw these guys in Oakland when they were first getting started and they were so good. Really cool band
Holy Collective Soul Ripoff.....is this on purpose?

I really loved the singer on a coupla other SP songs, but the novelty that it's a guy has worn off. So has the band's appeal. To each his own.
Saw them in concert recently....out-f*cking-standing!

So, do you realize that if Jesus had said; "As my Father took a rib from Adam to create Eve and give her everlasting life in Eden, I give you this rib as a symbol of my body that you might have everlasting live in Heaven." And then if he'd said; "Take this golden elixir as a symbol of the gilded life you will receive as a reward in Heaven." We'd all be having BBQ Ribs and Beer in church... It'd be more like a tailgate party. Attendance would be way up!
Just thought.

RT... You're losing it... keep it real
Holy Collective Soul Ripoff.....is this on purpose?
If it's a collective soul ripoff, they've done a great deal better than that band in terms of sounding damn good.
Waaaaay better than the aforementioned band, in my opinion - vocals better, guitar better, lyrics better, band name cooler, artwork on albums better, just ... better.
Religion - being the most malevolent of mind viruses - is something, I for one, would rather not see here on a music site.
Daniel 3:15—
Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?

I can't hear that, but maybe....
was quietly ignoring this track but glanced at the corgin references.( i truly hated "moth with chewing gum strings" somebody kill that song! )and you definitely can hear some similarity between the two groups...kinda sorta like a juvenile billy c before the eardrum destroying screeching began...guilty pleasure..i love 2 hate that guy.....then the sob releases Oceania which is now one of my favorite releases of the past couple yrs...i lose again
1: lacking taste or savor : tasteless
2: lacking in qualities that interest, stimulate, or challenge : dull, flat
This, in my opinion, is not insipid.
Yes, definitely sipid.

Wow really? I like this and hear the similarity but the Pumpkins dated? Can't say I agree to that as several 15 year old students wanted a copy of Siamese Dreams when I played it last week.

Definitely a flair for dynamic range in their songs, subtle to bombastic. And Chris is a trip to watch beating the skins.
More Silversun Pickups!
Am I the only one that feels like the Silversun Pickups aren’t getting played as often as they used to? Back when I first started listening in the mid-late 00s, I used to think of RP as “The Silversun Pickup Station” and wondered if “Bill” was actually the band’s manager. It always seemed like he had a slightly unnatural obsession with them.
I actually like them, so ‘job done, William’. They could get played a bit more again and it would be OK by me.
