And some of them were still
Sometimes it's hard to catch the wind
And bend it to your will
Even though it's hard to know
Just how the story ends
The road is long and it takes its time
On that you can depend
Lay me down in the river
And wash this place away
Break me down like sand from a stone
Maybe I'll be whole again one day
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Somewhere between heaven and hell
A soul knows where it's been
I want to feel my spirit lifted up
And catch my breath again
Lay me down in the river
And wash this place away
Break me down like sand from a stone
Maybe I'll be whole again one day
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again
Lay me down, lay me down
Maybe I'll be whole again one day
Is that the 10 minute argument or have you paid for the full half hour?
I COULD be arguing In my spare time...
I live in DC and you would be amazed at the number of people who don't have any grasp of a topic and are shocked that people don't want to listen to them. Many of these problems are far more complex than they can fathom.

I wonder how many people get this.

Hopefully indefinitely, because they do it, and have done it so well for so long..
Yep, that's what I was thinking.
Crosby especially is lucky just to be alive, much less singing like a bird.
Beautiful.

Some Thorns would go well after this.
Hits the spot today.
Agreed!

So good, thx for the spin RP...
Another one of those songs that begs, screams, and shouts for an uncompressed file and a bona fide hi-fi rig. The depth of space is amazing. I'll disagree re the rest of the album—IMHO they are not up to the standard set by this track.
If you want to hear David at his absolute best, get If I Could Only Remember My Name, his amazing solo album from about 1970, featruing Triad and other great tunes. It's in heavy rotation on my iPod.
I agree IICORMN is simply amazing; "Laughing" is Crosbys' single best composition; Lesh's bass growls like a bear and Garcia's pedal steel solo (a first take, I've read) sends chills down my spine every time. The list of supporting artists (sometimes reffed to as PERRO) is stellar.
Having seen Crosby and Nash earlier in 2011 (front row seats in a smallish community venue!) I'd like to say Crosbys' animation, stage presence, but most particularly the strength of his vocals, is the best I've experienced in years (throughout this century anyway, first time in was in oh '75 I think)
IMHO :)
You know, sometimes I think we should just close up and take care of our own. With the money we're spending on the mideast conflicts, we could do so much here for our own people. And will the war on terror ever end? Apparently we learned nothing from Vietnam.
As narrow a viewpoint as that might seem to some, I agree. Sort of like, "Clean the poop out of your own nest before you try to show someone else how to build one." Humans are a short-memoried species. We forget from day to day, and never mind year to year or decade to decade. We need constant reminders of past atrocities, for our own good - otherwise, we'd let propaganda, half-truths, and an overly-controlling higher power convince us that Vietnam never happened. The Holocaust never happened. Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima never happened. Mark Twain never used the word "nigger" in his writing.
Oh, geez - I just went all political, when what I really wanted to do was comment about the beauty of this song, this album, and those soaring vocals. I love Nasby and Crosh.
Absolutely perfect... 10!
Best album to come from these guys in a long time. If you haven't heard it, also listen to their awesome version of that old patrotic song, My Country Tis of Thee, it's to die for. Bummer, our soldiers shouldn't have to die for stupid causes, wasted lives, wasted for what? Afghanistan? IRAQ? Viet Nam? Give me a break. The peoples of Afghanistan and Iraq don't even appreciate our imposition of allowing our soldiers to sacrifice their lives in there country. They bad mouth us. May that we become more Chinese like and close our country up like the old Ming dynasties of old did. To hell with all of them, I say. Peace brother.

Yes, Baby!
Very nice song, maybe I should check out those classics ...
Chills head to toe.
First time.

It's being-hit-on-the-head lessons in here.
