There was a review of a Kate Bush album that concluded with the comment that the family cat had an unfair amount of abuse directed at it when it had the temerity to request attention after the reviewer had had to listen to the complete album... The same would apply here.
I bought this album in Brussels while I was busking my way across Europe with a friend when I was 16. We would sing with our guitar cases open all afternoon and get enough money for dinner. Back then two American kids singing Simon and Garfunkel tunes poorly was considered cute (I like to imagine). Not sure how that would go over today. Anyways, singing all day, listening to this song at night on my disk-man... the memories are priceless.

I bought this album in Amsterdam when traveling around Europe on the train with friends when I was 16. I am never able to separate the music from the memories, so in my opinion this is one of the greatest albums EVER!

The song is a question, not a statement. To the Christians in the audience, I say, try listening at least as often as you speak — see if that opens your mind at all. Just a thought. (shrug)

I like Tori and think she is an exceptional artist and musician, but she misfired here. Some of the backing vocal is off key and the horns are horrible in the mix. Whether intentional or not, it's ugly musically; I do give her props for trying for an unusual sound. As to the lyrics and such, I can't even get that far past the musical cacophony in this tune.

At least this song delivers 3 or 4 pathetic sob-sighs to give warning of what's to come, allowing me to change stations. It would be good if she provided a similar Early Warning System on all of her songs (in case the piano doesn't provide enough of a clue).
The last run of this song came immediately before Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo a la Turk. Talk about a clash. Horrible screeching vs solid jazz piano. It's almost an insult to Brubeck.
Ugh. No more Tori, please. Don't get me wrong — I really liked "Little Earthquakes." But mostly her vocal style drives me insane. Nails on a chalkboard.
One of the best songs on this album, in my opinion.

Say what you will about tori, I just read through the posts here and any music that can trigger such passionate discussion must be good for something. I don't personally dig her, but I can't help but respect her honesty and talent. On a side note, Marley, this "philosophy" that preaches hate~are you referring to Christianity? B/c if you are, you're wrong. That's a mighty big generalization. FUNDAMENTALISTS may practice that, but honest Christians do not. I was born and raised in the south, and I unlike those who have never lived there, know that to be fact. Any religion has facets of it that are shameful, but it's no reason to discount everyone that follows it.

I don't know if anyone (save maybe Dylan) gets so much negative feedback on this station as Tori. People can't seem to separate her from her music. I've heard people dismiss Springsteen's political views in lieu of his music, and religion is as political as it gets. She's not trying to convert anybody, man, and you can't write off everything that she does as crap. If you don't like her, don't listen to her, but just take it easy, man. Would you just take it easy, man.

Maybe it's because having years of hate, judgementalism, "morals" and intolerance shoved down your throat for so many years does that to you.
I worked in a place where there were a lot of hard-core Christians and I was subjected to hear their hate talk about gays, a women's right to choose and about anyone who was different to them or who chose a different lifestyle. I find that kind of lack of understanding and judementalism intolerable and I quit my job so I wouldn't have to be around people like that anymore. I had to look up the lyrics to see if I could make anything of what I was hearing. The title well.. gee wiz... guess confused.

Oh, and being a avid user of tampons I have to say that I hope I never have to know a day when they don't exist. In other words, your attempt at insulting Ms. Amos by referring to what she does as "musical tampons" just reinforces how I feel - Many women depend on her music.

apparently not ... Don't get me wrong, I really like Tori, but her vocals on this are annoying. Her piano as always, is wonderful.
I should say that I discovered her music after this album.

one of my favorite tori songs. I always like the horns in this.
Somebody doesn't like Tori too well.
Rated this song a 1 before it had hardly even started.
Wasn't me I was checking to see what others had thought about it.
