Another song that makes me wish there was a "play it again" button.
I Agree.
Can't... stop... tapping... my.... Foot... Must.... Resist...
Don't resist. You could hurt yourself!
If you haven’t seen, “Swing Kids,” do so! This song makes me wished I’d learned those crazy dance moves! Wow! What a tune! Thanks, RP!!
Disclaimer: I played horn in school band, and though I was rubbish I loved the experience :)
I hear early roots of rock'n'roll in this.
YES!
KILLER!!! Actually composed by Louis Prima, with vocals and made famous by Benny Goodman! There are great videos on You Tube of Prima & Goodman with their orchestras playing this tune! ...And, a great version was used in the dance/ fight scene in the movie 1941 with John Belushi!
YES!! And you forgot the Los Straitjackets version, which is also GREAT!!
Are you the person who saw the movie "1941"?
Yes!! 3 times! Silly movie, but funny!
Not in RP please...
Not your call, mate.... (Thank BillG)
Thanks for this! How about playing the 1939 Benny Goodman concert - that would be Gene Krupa on drums, Lionel Hampton on xylophone, Benny on clarinet, well, all the great ones.
Love this rendering by James Horner, but this idea gives me goosebumps of joy.
PS. love the clarinet part.
Only reason why I didn't give this a 10. I probably should still give it a 10. They play it just fine.
Ah hell. 10

Everlasting !
why is this song credited to James Horner? This IS the benny goodman version with gene krupa and the whole shebang. I have been listening to this recording for 70 years.
this version is about 3 minutes shorter seems to me.
Benny Goodman's charts & a pretty faithful rendition -- but a new recording.
Why was this cover approved for upload? IS there any original aspect of this cover? What does it add to Benny Goodman's classic?
IMO this was probably recorded just for the movie with the tempo to match the choreography. This is a Jazz Standard so I imagine there are tons of recordings out there.

This is an excellent and heartfelt cover of a piece of musical history. Would I like Bill to also play the original? Absolutely! But this version is no reason to get into a snit over the lack.
And the Swing Kids movie is pretty good, too - and scarily relevant today.
I have that one on vinyl, part of my father's collection. I swiped it and brought it to college back in the 1980's and my friends loved it.
even faster

Eight years later, you won't like what you see. Dance faster!

THE perfect GIF animation for this song. I watched the entire 4 seconds over and over and never got tired of it!
I remember something of a debate with my college roommate about the longevity of music. We were listening to some Beethoven and he questioned whether anyone would still be listening to "today's" music in 100 years. I opined that people would still be listening to Beatles songs then, just the first thing that popped into my head. He snorted like it was the stupidest thing he'd ever heard.
It's a bet that can't be settled in our lifetimes, but I'm sure I'm right. That's the thing about music. There are infinite ways to put it together and there will always be timeless pieces being composed. They may not sound anything alike, but creativity certainly did not cease to exist with the onset of the 20th century, or the 21st.

They weren't dancing to this song; they were being chased around the ship by Nazis while a song very inspired by this one was playing in the background. Mulder had gone through a time-warp in the Bermuda Triangle.
a pure mood booster
I don't remember it, but I can see the scene in my head as I write
I'm dancing in my chair at work.
written and originally recorded in 1936 after Prohibition so maybe Great Depression Music?

I think you are missing the point of the ‘eclectic’ concept.
We got something a little stronger out back
Ask for Joe
But, NOT to be played by a marching band.
Now I know where "Let there be drums" got their machinations.
oh yeah!
Agreed! high energy blast!
Best part: Listening to the Blue Devils playing this in the cavernous gymnasium!
Did you need to adjust the flux capacitor?
Yes.
