Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

So, take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul
Istanbul

Istanbul
Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way

Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

So, take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul!

... how have I been listening to RP for this long ( a very long time), and NOT yet given this song a 10?
Silly fun! An 8.
I don't understand the fascination with Turkish Delight.  I tried it once, and it was like eating perfumed soap!
It's like the Sucko-Barfo rating was created for this song.
Particle Man!
The video to this is more bonkers than a swingers club, more bananas than Fyffes, and great fun in a Hanna-Barbera stylee  :o)

A great song that's stood the test of time. 10 from the Nottingham jury.

Take me back to Constantinople. It's Constantinople NOT Istanbul
Nice to hear some TMBG on RP.  I find they're often quirky make me think.   I appreciate their support of science as real.

Just got the Duplessy/TMBG/Vivaldi set again, wonder if Kan'Nal is next ;)

[Edit] Yes, Kan'Nal was next.. and I'm thoroughly enjoying this set!

I can think of a few, sewage treatment plants, toxic waste dumps, abattoirs, etc.
Puttin' on the Ritz
Makes me think of Moxy Fruvous....a good thing.

Love it ;-) Thank you radio paradise!
Years ago I was transiting through Istanbul on New Year's eve.

There was a full moon. In fact, being the second full moon of the month, a 'blue moon' at that.

I walked through the moonlit streets and across a bridge to the Beşiktaş district on the European shore and found a trendy cocktail bar overlooking the Bosphorus and the Asian shore. It was just minutes before midnight. I ordered a scotch and walked to the windows to watch the fireworks across the water. As the clock struck midnight, this was the song the DJ played. A song from my college days before alternative music went mainstream, and an unforgettable moment in a magical city under a blue moon.
Song sung by a pervert. Blah.

The original is better by the Four Lads
so grateful that the horrible song, 5 American 6 Canadian, didn't appear...!
The Residents "Constantinople" might be a bit much even for RP.

Agreed...in fact the entire album is gold, again assuming the proper altitude {#Propeller}
Gotta love it! Haven't heard this in ages! Ranks up there with Moxy Fruvous.

They Might be Giants with Squirrel Nut Zippers.  Maybe throw in Irene Cara.  That'd be a show...
Good to hear some TMBG on RP. Speaking of eclectic this guy's are all over the place but excellent musicians. I'd love to hear more.

Ed,
You have to figure that a radio station that includes "Sucko-Barfo" as a possible song rating - has a sense of humor! Enjoy a little dessert with your steak and potatoes once in a while!

An excellent selection that would be perfectly rounded out by following with Particle Man :)

I think I dislocated my shoulder lunging for the PSD button , because even a split second of this crap is FAR too long .

Cracks me up every time RP plays 'They Might Be Giants'!! {#Lol}

Sadly I am unable to tease apart "cause and effect". Ergo, I shall never know whether I like or dislike the song per se.

From their last really good CD. It was all down hill after that. "John Henry" remains, to this day, the only CD I've ever thrown away. I gave them a few more chances, but "Mink Car" was the last straw.

The irony, of course, is that early on they wrote a song about someone who only had a few good songs to in them, and didn't know it was time to quit ("Number Three", from the self-titled album). Sad. I was a big fan, and saw them live a couple of times. Even got them to sign my copy of "Lincoln".

I just saw them in concert and was pleasantly surprised how good - even better- their songs are live.... Except for this one.
I'm an off an on listener.  Was clued in to radio paradise by a friend/work colleague.  First time I'm hearing TMBG.  Good stuff!  Maybe a "Birdhouse in Your Soul" at some point?
