update: she wandered into a hospital late last night and is recovering
she didn't communicate much with the staff but a nurse recognized her from numerous family facebook posts and made contact

The vet just called a little earlier ⦠it is cancer, and probably a secondary cancer, spread from somewhere else. Thereâs a remote chance it could be a fungal infection, but based on the location etc thatâs unlikely. So, Iâm going to keep her comfortable and be intentional about her âend of life.â No invasive tests or treatments. Going to keep giving her the pain meds we already have, and can increase the dosage, if it seems to be helping, which it's not really, so far. Her appetite and all are still good, so there's that.
The nice thing about pets is their 'end of life' wishes are lots of love from their humans. That is something you are obviously very good at giving. My prayers for your both.

Sorry to hear, my heart goes out to you. I lost my kitty, Sweetness, to cancer around this time last year. I adopted her at age 2 & she was 15 when she passed. She took good care of me over the years.
