This is home to me. I live here in Portage County, Ohio. This is terrible, period. I became aware of it this afternoon listening to the PM drive radio when I went out to the car for a break. Came back into the store and did a search and found that it had made it all the way to The Guardian, so it must be a real big deal. I looked here to see if it had been brought up yet and found this put up in the wee hours of the morning. The host who is definitely pro Trump was outraged, as he should be. He wanted to have the Sheriff on during the 5 oclock segment. Listening on the way home, he was a no show. Our protectors are to be devoid of politics and should promote safety and reassurance, not fear was the thoughts put forth by the host. In other words, he was pissed at the sheriff, because this only further divides us and in an emotional way which is the hardest one to overcome. Wrong is wrong.
The craziness must stop, on all sides. We cannot go on like I'll stop if they will, too. No we gotta stop regardless of what the other does. Trump clearly has a target on his back and the rhetoric as documented by beaker put it there. Political violence is rapidly gaining acceptance on both sides. It is the equal and opposite reaction to the language being used.
The assassination attempts will not stop until they have succeeded. Too many people have seen how easy it is to take a shot at Trump.
These are my first reactions to the local news. It will not go away because the Sheriff is up for reelection. It will be a real yard stick measurement for what the attitude in these parts are, and maybe elsewhere ?
Appreciating that we appear to have reached this point, I'd ask that you take a step back on consider the origins of the aggression.
Violence is a well-documented element of Trump doctrine. He says aggressive shit...and the crowd cheers. "Punch 'em, hit 'em, fight like hell"... every speech. He wraps that in the flag. If you don't (insert aggression)... America will be dead. That emotional connection is the only reason he's so popular. Most Trump supporters say they don't admire him as a person... so what else is the draw? It's emotional anger, followed by "I am your retribution"! I guess the sheriff thinks he should help out at the local level.
Democrats say Trump is a "Threat to democracy". They don't attach any acts of violence, other than those associated with January 6. You can't find a similar local story where a Democratic supporter suggests organized, calculated violence against supporters of another party. It's not who they are. That's why I am no longer a Republican. I'm not a Democrat either, but I'd rather hang out with them because they are a lot less angry.
Sunday morning I was driving through the western suburbs of Philly. Not the highways....the back roads (going to the Wharton Esherick museum... which I highly recommend). I love that part of PA...rolling hills, nothing straight... feels like a miniature version of the part of Vermont my mother is from. The lawn signs for Trump outnumbered Harris 10 or 15 to 1. I know the area well enough to know that Harris is probably going to win the towns we were driving through... so why the discrepancy?
The Trump support tends to come from people saying "Fuck you... I support Trump". That aggression is intimately wrapped in the fabric of Republican support right now. Everyone else is avoiding conflict, and most see a sign as just a way to unnecessarily focus some idiots anger upon themselves. No sign for me thanks.
The suggestion that the rhetoric and violence are out of hand is absolutely correct, but any notion that both sides share in its escalation equally is intellectually dishonest.
Bruce Zuchowski, the sheriff of Portage County who is seeking reelection, made the remarks Friday in two identical posts on his personal and professional Facebook accounts.
“I say … write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards!” Zuchowski (R) said. That way, he said, when undocumented immigrants — which he referred to as a “locust” — flooded in, “We’ll already have the addresses of their New families … who supported their arrival!” So much for everyone 'calming down the rhetoric...'

On a more personal note for DJT the business guru... His "lockup" period for selling Trump Media shares expires on Thursday. Last Thursday Trump said, âI don't wanna sell my shares. I don't need moneyâ.
Does anyone believe him...or will he grab whatever cash he can from the stock before it goes the way of Trump Steaks...

So much for everyone 'calming down the rhetoric...'
This would be so oh-so-touching and heartbreaking if it were a tad less deluded and cynical.
Trump and his supporters have repeatedly whipped up resentment, anger and demonization of opponents. Trump doesn't oppose Harris and Biden on points of policy, he calls them crooked, Marxist, enemies of the people, etc. Trump keeps claiming that the Democrats will destroy this country and economy and that he must be granted powers like a dictator to "save" America.
We didn't have that much political violence until Trump came along. Granted, it wasn't all his fault but he's done an extraordinary amount to encourage it. And you, with your wallowing in the sensational and idiotic, just play up and add to the ceaseless stream of disorienting BS and hate.
Frankly, if Trump's would-be assassins (both Republican, how 'bout that) weren't such f&k-ups and aimed for Harris instead (the more logical target for their twisted thinking), I don't think you'd be crying "O tempora! O mores!" quite so loudly.
So do us all a favor and stop adding fuel to this burning trash pile of a man.
OUR BORDERS MUST BE CLOSED, AND THE TERRORISTS, CRIMINALS, AND MENTALLY INSANE, IMMEDIATELY REMOVED FROM AMERICAN CITIES AND TOWNS, DEPORTED BACK TO THEIR COUNTIES OF ORIGIN. WE WANT PEOPLE TO COME INTO OUR COUNTRY, BUT THEY MUST LOVE OUR NATION, AND COME IN LEGALLY AND THROUGH A SYSTEM OF MERIT.
