So my attempt at having the same illustrator do something entirely different didn't work out. Oh well, can't win 'em all. Rather than the pretty straightforward style you see here, she wound up putting in a lot of detail that totally lost the charm of her work. I suggested some revisions and it still didn't get better, so I closed out that job ( âminus about $40 on that) and hired a different illustrator for more money ($75) and I gave that person basically the same instructions and they killed it.

Nice. I still have one original left, but it is due for replacement. Will these be in the store?
*crickets* but I just hired an illustrator in Surabaya Indonesia to render a client's sketch ... which turns out to have been copied from some commercial clipart so we've come full circle. Anyway this person is a different style and she rocked it. Now I'm having her draw something for me that I'll share here when it goes live.

Does anyone have experience with Fiverr as either a provider or user of services? Can you discuss highs, lows, warnings, skill levels? My part-time gig may be ending and I'm searching for a backup.
As a gig, you'll be competing against people who consider $50 to be a week's wages, and also against people who have no talent whatsoever but are part of a collective, selling either clipart/pirated stuff, or other members' output. That second part is okay, if a team is capable of giving me what I am after, fantastic. If I want two things to look similar/consistent, then it becomes problematic.
My experience on upwork/elance as a seller was similar; my strength was in finding jobs that the client didn't really know what they needed, and I'd quickly solve their problem so they could move on. I often did this without completing the contract because that back-and-forth could take more time than the job was worth. I'd just say "here you go, please accept my bid and finalize payment" and that often worked wonders because they didn't want to spend a lot of time any more than I did. I also made the point of saying American English my specialty or something along those lines because I was willing to accept jobs from racists who are willing to pay US rates and also because it's a valid point when you're needing to prepare advertising copy.
Here are some before/after images of fiverr gigs I've had done for me. The portfolio art I liked/needed and then maybe the final product. I only ordered the art, added the text later.
$63 Super happy with the process and results here; haven't sold anything ;-)
And from another gig, I needed original simple drawings for a tombstone: a BBQ smoker, a fly fisherman, a golfer, but they all needed to be done in the same style. This was a challenge and I went through a few providers like this:
I may have made a mistake. I assumed you are going to draw new figures, not simply trace the samples I gave you.
I can trace a photo myself; I want someone to draw all new figures in the style you show in your portfolio. If I made a mistake and you're not able to do original drawings, please cancel this order.
This guy
$32... Gave me this ; probably haven't recouped that cost yet but this is a reminder to go fiddle with the listing to see if I can get it to move. Will probably add "Yellowstone," etc. to it
And finally, this guy cost me $64
And I got two pieces that have netted me $480
So overall my experience is good but I'm a bit more savvy now.
