it was meant to be 5-days at altitudes between 7000' and 9000' F. came down with the flu shortly before we left. So he stayed home. Then I came down with Covid on Day 2 so had to cut it short after the second day. damn. But the two days I had were awesome.

ok, bit of a thread jack here as journals no longer exist.
back story: after six months of what felt like 7-day working weeks and shifting a shit ton of work (for which I am truly grateful) I really needed to get out for a bit.
So I organised huts for a hike in the dolomites with my eldest son (21 yrs old now), who is halfway through law school. Just the ticket.
That hut perched in the saddle is a three storey job. Big country.
Wowza. Stunning.

Where it disappears on Google Maps are the tunnels.
It still somewhat intact. There's really just one cave in at a tunnel entrance.
This one here where my granddaughter climbed over...
A great documentary of the whole story...

Well... my granddaughter struggled the first 50 yards. So my son took their bikes back to the truck and walked instead of rode the whole way.
Surprisingly, they fell behind maybe a half mile on the way up to the Goat Canyon Trestle where we waited for them.
We pressed on to the big 1/4 mile long tunnel. Waited again and had lunch.
Coming back, we got back maybe an hour before them.
An epic trip for all involved.

Almendres Cromlech
The construction of these structures dates back to the 6th millennium BC (2000+ years before Stonehenge).
They were rediscovered in 1966 by Henrique Leonor Pina, who was carrying out field work relating to the country's geological charts.
