I have a long long rant but I'll try to shorten it. Several years ago, I sat in on a portfolio critique for students over at the local college. One of those students was pretty good and wound up interviewing me about 4 years ago. I lost the job when I openly mocked her workplace's refusal to consider InDesign (she cited some 15-year-old mantra about Quark being the industry standard). Anyway, this woman has never actually had a job that required her to do anything but create... and here I am working with a simple postcard she designed and I've been an hour just trying to get it to work. From white elements set to overprint (looks fine on her monitor) to the postcard back being rotated 90° from the front... not a big deal but I can't just rip the front, rip the back and know they're going to back up correctly. Jesus!

She actually gets out of the way, usually, and/or has good suggestions, so what I dream up has a decent shot of getting produced, so she's good that way. But she sent a mail on Monday with a photo and said "info to follow." So I wait for the info. Next day, at work, I see I got an email with info but in neither case did she use a subject line so I didn't put two and two together since the photo didn't appear to be related in any way to the info. Oh, and we do some work at the office for her as well so I don't automatically assume it's all for me. So anyway, I spent the entire week waiting for the other email. Now that I type it out it's looking like a on my part but the disconnect of this goes here, that went there... it's corn-fusing, man!

I need to rant about how one of my freelance clients never seems to have all of her information ready to go when I sit down to work on her jobs. Clearly it's too difficult to put all photos and information into one email, so she sends bits and pieces over the course of a week... and sends to and from different email addresses based on where she is at the time and what time of day it is.

late afternoon or evening & she's at the office : she sends it to my freelance email from her office email.
late afternoon or evening & she's at home : she sends it to my freelance email from her home email.
daytime & she's at the office : she sends it to my day-job email from her office email.
daytime & she's at home : she sends it to my day-job email from her home email.

Plus, she can't put the subject of the email in the Subject line. They're always "Oh by the way" or "Finally!" or replies to some unrelated older job.
Plus, she rarely signs her emails.

So I have to search my freelance email for anything from her two email addresses, gather the crumbs of information that might be in any of them, paste into a blank doc, then log into my day job email from home, search for both email addresses again, gather bits of info, paste into a new email, send it to myself at home, copy from that ad paste into the main doc, sort, collate, spindle... before I can even think about starting on the actual job.
