More importantly, what should overshadow this tragic loss of life is the loss of the first responders who rushed into the face of a very certain death without hesitation to do what they devoted their lives to doing.  Selflessly.

It should most importantly be remembered for the selflessness that was displayed that terrible day and the following days.  This is what the anniversary will mean to me for the rest of my life.

It makes me very angry that the very fire and police departments who went voluntarilly into the face of death are being excluded from participating in the memorial services.  This is unforgivable.

As I understand it, there wasn't enough room for them and the families of the victims.

IMHO it's equally important to remember the selfishness equally.  It was selfish ambition on the part of the nation's top executives who sought political capital, and the military brass that sought coveted battle ribbons (the gateway to becoming a general/flag officer).  It was the selfish disconnect of the American people who hysterically endorsed throwing money at the problem, rather than getting personally involved.  It was the selfishness of private "defense" contractors, who engaged in shameless profiteering.

At this point in American history, we cannot afford to repeat the same mistakes one more time.  We must learn from these mistakes or perish as a nation.
