Ever since I upgraded to Firefox 3.01, it's been crashing several times a day on me. It especially seems to hate Flickr - every time I try to upload my photos to Flickr, Firefox crashes. The old version never used to do that. Anyone have any suggestions?

The goal of the original goal of Phoenix/Firebird/Firefox was to produce a lean, high performance Gecko-based browser as a companion of, and alternative to the Mozilla Suite. PhoeFiFo was built using Gecko and a "clean slate" approach, vs. other Mozilla variant browsers (like Galeon) that started with the Mozilla "Seamonkey" suite, and pared it down to meet size and performance goals. Sadly, the runaway popularity of what eventually became called Firefox has led to Firefox succumbing to the bloatware plague. Version 3 is a welcome step back towards PhoeFiFo's original goals.

Because my personal workstations all have way more than enough RAM and HD capacity to accommodate all but the bloatiest of bloatware, my own personal concerns are about performance. I want a computer that has no noticeable lag whatsoever; that's my Holy Grail when it comes to personal computing. So when Firefox gets faster, I get happier.

OTOH size does matter, because it does take a finite amount of time to move that object code from the disk and to the RAM, and to/from the CPU. Firefox as it is has lots of room for improvement. One obvious change that could improve the product is to dump the buggy GTK(2, + etc.) library dependencies, and keep the Firefox GUI as "lean and mean" as its Gecko rendering engine. I'm running KDE, why should I have to install major portions of GNOME in order to get Firefox running? That was the whole point of developing PhoeFiFo in the first place, after all. Let's have a Firefox that contains nothing but what it needs to render and navigate web pages, plug-in and add-on APIs, and just enough glue to have it work with the native windowing system. I use something called IELite to do that. Thing is, you have to be logged in to ICHC to favorite stuff, and none of my logins are stored in IE, and I know it's not that hard to do it, but I can't be assed.

The worst thing was the lies and denial about the memory usage problems that started with the 2. XX versions, it was a continous downhill slide after that. Mozilla became more interested in prettying it up and dumbing it down( and oh yeah, marketing all that cool stuff) What was once great is now s***.
