In a Cole Porter mood lately....although his works were more varied than just early jazz...

Or if you prefer a slower, more velvety Ella Fitzgerald version......

Heh. And the next link gets a "flat nine chord" (no, nope not a clue) and  a "Weather Report" gag in in minutes.

I found a couple of compilations in the studio - one called "A Hodge Podge of Off Beat Jazz: Collectors Items from the 20's and 30's" (You can't go wrong with a title like that)- threw in some records from the guys you suggested and am having a pretty good show. Thanks to those of you that were helpful.

Jelly Roll early. And I'm looking for suggestions that are more like: "this song done by this artist" as opposed to "this artist," if you could, please.

How early? Jelly-Roll early? Or Miles Davis from the 50s?  Or any of the Marsalises?

For my money, you can't go wrong with a thick collection of Blue Note and Riverside compilations.

Just play the damn records already!

I used to listen to a lot of Louis Armstrong and his various bands (Hot 5, Hot 7, All-Stars) - stuff from the 1920's and 30's.  "Potato Head Blues", "West End Blues", "Heebie Jeebies", "(I'll Be Glad When You're Dead) You Rascal You".  Great stuff.

I've  been listening for a year or so and love the station. I thought other listeners with similar tastes to me might have some good ideas for this local show I'm doing (KCAW Sitka, AK), so, to answer your question, yes.

I sent a carrier pigeon to our biggest jazz nut but he hasn't checked in yet. So keep checking back.

To explain the suspicion on our part, last year we had a rash of spammers who would join and make a few posts that would establish them as real people, then they'd start slipping links into their posts that got more and more spammy. But the posts they made were usually almost but not quite on topic. You asking about early jazz on a site dedicated mostly to jazz would fit that description. Of course we talk about anything here but still, we just have to have a little joke amongst ourselves sometimes when a new poster shows up and fits a certain profile...

That said, Welcome to RP!
