Yes she's ignorant - but I think she knows full well what she did was derrogatory- it's that she doesn't find that wrong. As for racist - I certainly could see someone putting Bush in that picture - would that be called racist?
(On the other hand - have you seen some political cartoons in mainstream media.)
It's racist because its intent is racist. It has only one meaning, that our president is a child of monkeys. Plus, this imagery is historically racist.
If Bush's pic was on here, it wouldn't be racists because, 1) He is a white guy, and 2) it would be less literal and more metaphorical, like he was "acting like a monkey."
Unfortunately I can't see your video until I'm home - it's blocked here at work - but I will check it out. The allegations in the article are certainly disturbing and I know there've been raw nerves since this incident: UC Irvine students accused of disrupting Israeli Ambassador
You can find the video of that day on Youtube to judge for yourself. I hate to see students punished for exercising their right to protest - as long as it's peaceful. They are being accused of crossing that line.
This stuff is like a hollywood blockbuster though - predictable. Both sides will point fingers long and vociferously before acquiescing to their own faults.
If in fact elected officials are showing and prepetuating bias for a population as a whole based on the actions of a small minority of that population - they should be censured or recalled - there's no excuse for it.

There are political cartoons, and then there is the reality of political hate speech in Orange County.
This is such obvious racism, and unfortunately, the woman who created it is so ignorant that she is unable to see this.

I agree with you on the hypocrisy - and the stupidity. The picture is wrong, but not worse than many that have been posted here. The idicocracy is that she's a public official in the spotlight and her tacit denial of her own impropriety assumes we are fools or proves she is.
As for Orange County, California:
Wealthy: Yes Conservative: Yes White: half right - less than 50% - unless you count some hispanic whites Bigoted: Although I don't live in Orange county I've worked here for close to 25 years. That whole time I've worked next to people from Asia, the Middle East, South America, Mexico, Africa - you name it. I find it to be an area that tolerates a diverse population. Yes there's bigotry, but it's not even close to being called a bigoted place.
Don't prepetuate the bigotry you report on by publishing inaccurate news fodder. Being conservative - which I don't consider myself - does not automatically equate to bigotry.

RELUCTANT APOLOGIES EXPECTED FROM RACIST POLITICAL PARTY
Orange County, California is wealthy, white and conservative. It is also one of the most bigoted places on earth. Marilyn Davenport is now considered a hero.
And, as for her guilt, she didn’t create the email nor did she create the “political art.” The Republican Party did.

RELUCTANT APOLOGIES EXPECTED FROM RACIST POLITICAL PARTY
By Gordon Duff STAFF WRITER/Senior Editor
This is a “political art” created by the Republican Party and distributed over the internet, most recently by an Orange Country elected official named Marilyn Davenport. When the fact that her racist email was also forwarded to the press was told to her, she wanted to have the perpetrator arrested.
She considered this worse than Wikileaks and was looking for the “Bradley Manning” that she said had “betrayed” her.
Calling this depiction ugly racism is an understatement. Calling for the immediate removal of Marilyn Davenport is an understatement also. However, nothing is likely to be done as, you see, in Orange County, California, something like this is considered “honest humor.”

just trying to awaken this thread, before it's completely forgotten..... we actually heard the word "baboonery" used on NPR, during an episode of "radio lab." they were talking about baboon culture vs human culture, and that, at least for the baboons, it seemed that the key to stopping war was to leave it up to the females to decide.
in baboon culture, if it's left up to the females, the baboon tribe will just sit around and love each other all day....grooming, cuddling, feeding one another. the poo flinging just...stops.
if the males are left in charge, however, baboons are vicious to one another.
"I have never read twilight" What does that even mean?
It's a series of vampire books that have come out in the past few years. I haven't read them. No one will ever stand up to Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, IMO.
