Hate Comes to Orange County

Okay, finally got to watch this.  Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.  Like the birthers and their celebrity trumpeter The Donald there are those that will cling to a cause tenacioulsy despite contradictorary evidence.

The ICNA has been accused of financing terriorism periodically throughout its history.    That is why you see a congressman, a clergyman, and a city coucil woman there (there's a joke there somewhere).  They think this group funds terrorists in Pakistan.  Apparently they'll take their support from any quarter they can get it.  Unfortunately, for people looking for any excuse to justify their bigotry, the stature of these three officials lends enough legitimacy to the accusations .

One bright spot - considering the size of Orange county, and the size of groups that other protesters have amassed (for instance KPFK a pro-palestinian radio station often gathers much larger groups) this is a pretty paltry showing.

That is pretty despicable, hateful stuff in that video, which is probably all-too-common for many protests any more.  It's especially vile what seems to be that "religious authority" screaming anti-Mohammed sentiments - but no one used the "N" word, so I guess there are those who will say it's okay and that those folks are not racists or hate-mongers.

I wonder which one Pres. Obama finds more insulting, the monkey or Bush?!

Just goes to show, I guess, that you can be profoundly insulting without resorting to racism.  Ain't human nature grand?

Okay, it was a cheap shot. I admit it. But Bush is just so much fun to goof on.

While you're right - there's history there with that image and racisim - the artcle that's linked is devoid of any input from Davenport and full of opinion by the author.

Without balanced input it's hard to be unbiased about the offender's intentions (although admittedly there seems there can only be bad and worse).

It's racist because its intent is racist. It has only one meaning, that our president is a child of monkeys. Plus, this imagery is historically racist.

If Bush's pic was on here, it wouldn't be racists because, 1) He is a white guy, and 2) it would be less literal and more metaphorical, like he was "acting like a monkey."
