How do we use the technologies that we have to protect them rather than focusing on punishing them? We shouldn’t ignore youth who are using social media to voice their pain in the hopes that someone who cares might stumble across their pleas. Urban theorist Jane Jacobs used to argue that the safest societies are those where there are “eyes on the street.” What she meant by this was that healthy communities looked out for each other, were attentive to when others were hurting, and were generally present when things went haywire. How do we create eyes on the digital street? How do we do so in a way that’s not creepy? When is proactive monitoring valuable for making a difference in teens’ lives? How do we make sure that these same tools aren’t abused for more malicious purposes? like the NSA and GCHQ who are watching it all anyhow? I'd have no problem with access by the online child protection service that we have over here (CEOP).

Sorry for the delayed response, I've got a big transaction at the moment and its keeping me busy or frying my mind most of the time.
On the messenger point i was weirded out maybe a little like Scott. I'm better at reading an article actually than listening to someone, I'm an analytical type and prefer a dispassionate point of view so stats are useful. As for the question with a question point, I'm just chatting here, it's not debating school ( is it?!).
No it's not, not at all. It has been wonderfully civilized though, lately. The wife is watching the vid and made it half way through and had to stop. She will finish it though she says. She might pop in on this later. I'll say for me to sit through an hour of very dry material all at once wasn't easy, but I'm glad I did. Never heard of the guy before, its that the topic is very interesting as a parent and being concerned about the future. I give it weight because it was Jeff who brought it up and he is not one who takes these things lightly nor deals in inflamatory sources imo.

kurtster wrote: Interesting results so far. Men seem take it one way and women seem take it another way. 100% so far.
So is it the message or the messenger ?
What would the women say if the messenger were say, Hillary Clinton ? Would that make any difference ?
I will be the first to admit that if it was Nancy Pelosi, I would not give it the attention that I did. But Hillary ? I would have to give it serious consideration and still probably feel the same way at the end.

He's just laying out the numbers, I think. I guess calling the "Welfare State" the "Single Mom State" was a little flagrant, but assuming his numbers are correct, it's pretty interesting. Unfortunately, I've never made it to the end of any of his videos. He weirds me out. Maybe I'll give this one a try tho, because I want to see how he ties it all together. my introduction was through peaceful parenting ( i initially had similar feelings as you) please forget about the guy, it could be anyone speaking the question for me was "is it true?" we've all been conditioned to reject principled thinking we certainly don't apply morality and ethics (our culture) equally to everyone everywhere we've been taught to create exceptions and/or accept exceptions through conditioning principled thought exposes that in this case state sponsored violence/aggression towards children an unintended consequence/mutation of the welfare system regards
