whoa. Googling ClaimID led me to Naymz. They present a benefit I hadn't considered. You can claim your online identity while distancing yourself from others who share your name. When your name is the same as that of a pron star, it could be worth the effort.

I put off linking Flickr and Yahoo, too. It seemed intrusive, which is a good descriptor of how I feel about OpenID as well. I didn't know that you would automatically log in to a separate Yahoo messenger ID if the other Yahoo ID was open for other purposes. That seems like a Yahoo flaw. It's been five years since I've logged into Yahoo messenger, and I'm no expert.

As Allan reminded me, the Flickr folk seemed to understand their users' reticence to use Yahoo to sign into Flickr. So they said, just make up a name, and they gave the example of firstname_flickr@yahoo. I've never opened Yahoo messenger with my Flickr ID, but I suppose I could.

I dunno. When I had to associate my Flickr account with a Yahoo ID (and I waited until the laaaaast minute), I decided I didn't want to use my messenger ID, which was my old married name. *cough* It still is, actually. So I created a new Yahoo ID based on my Flickr username, and they've been separate entities ever since.

Exactly. Let's hope someone pipes up with firsthand experience. One consideration - if I've logged in to Flickr with my OpenID ID, will opening a Yahoo window already have me logged in? Maybe I don't want to be logged in to Yahoo.

I just did some quick research. What's cool about OpenID is that it's open source, so no one company will own OpenID. The other thing I found out is that I have at least five ways to have an OpenID: via Blogger, Flickr, Technorati, Vox, Yahoo, and Wordpress. Oh wait, that's six.

But yeah...one ID and password? There's a reason I don't do the master password thing with Firefox.

The concept of OpenID seems suspect to me, but I trust no one. One ID and password that holds all your others? I dunno. Maybe my perception of it is skewed.

Honestly, I'm more interested in how beneficial Toodledo has proven to be for anyone who's used it. It almost seems counterproductive to me - key in your to do items along with how much time each will take, check them off as they're accomplished, look for something that you've estimated will take the same amount of time you have left in the workday. My workday is generally spent working on the particular project that's on fire at the moment.

edit: When I was registering for Toodledo, there was a prompt to use your OpenID, so I looked it up and thought I'd ask about it as well.

I never bothered to get an OpenID. Because, whatever. Blogger is now owned by Google, so my Gmail ID gets me signed in there, and my Typepad account works for those blogs, and I do have a Wordpress account too, so for a lot of sites that have OpenID as an option, I'm already covered. If I hadn't already had all those other accounts, I might've signed up. But I think I was also leery of the idea of OpenID for some reason.

Wait...Allan says that Typepad's TypeKey works with OpenID. Hmm. I should try to see if he's right some time.

Seriously? You think someone would ask online for others' opinions about their experience with a product without going to the address bar, typing in the name of said product, hitting enter, and learning about it? {#Lol}

Uh. No. Is that how they do it in French Canadia?

hobbitt has an OpenID. Says he doesn't use it much - since he doesn't surf to all that many sites that require userids.
