Went to an orientation last night for high school kids who're taking concurrent enrollment courses at the local college. Almost stroked out when, in the 2nd hour, one presenter said to email the prof with questions about the class, but to cc the high school as well so theyââ then the other presenter cuts in and asks, "just one thing: does everyone here know what "cc" means?" and when no one raised their hands because oh was that a real question? she went into a 10 minute explanation of how cc'ing an email works and why you should and how to find the cc area I refer you to the part where this is high school juniors and seniors taking AP courses at the college.
It means CARBON COPY! If you want to cc someone retype the email with a TYPEWRITER using CARBON PAPER!
Oh, trust me, she went into the history of the typewriter.
Thanks for this Scott. I can just picture it. That's teachers for you. And I know, I'm (supposed to be) one. Sometimes I fantasise about coming up with the weirdest explanations when students ask me questions. And I do on occasion. Especially with my kids. Then again, I never cease to be surprised by how little students know about the Internet, emailing and the like. They're supposed to be fluent with technology, but many of them don't have a clue how to make a proper search, make sure they know what kind of website they're getting their information from and so on. See, my point above made involuntarily!! Sorry, at least I didn't take ten minutes. Thanks for the vivid image and laugh :-)
