I tried to pull the rope down from the sky
It wouldn't come down so I started to climb
I've got a great work to do
And I can't come down

I can't come down
For the shame I feel
I can't come down
Cause I can see from here
I've got a great work to do
And I can't come down

I felt he with the hands can lead
And the eyes can't see
See you fall
Hopes are going out of the city lights
I take it apart
To the angels tonight
I've got a great work to do
And I can't come down
Can't come down

she likes her guitars, don't she?
Like the big bass drum. Sounds like a one man band.

Excelsior was a troll who wished he could be PG, and I hope he stays gone, but PG was a much more complex character then most people give him credit for.  An interesting thing about his posts is that they were almost always about the band/song while the replies were quite personal and in general much more rude/insulting then the original post.  And while I do think he enjoyed poking people in the eye, unlike a true troll, he did post positive comments for things he liked.  Quite the odd bird that one.

And unlike a true troll—there are so many definitions of "true" in this instance—PG never indulged in ab hominem attacks. It was always about the song, the genre, the culture. And while I can't be sure, it's always impressed me that no one caught on to the source of his tag line, "90% of everything is crap." The line is from science fiction writer Ted Sturgeon and is now referred to as Sturgeon's Law. It was his complaint that his genre was—at that time, the '50s—roundly criticized for low quality, and he observed a similar lack of quality in almost every other genre. Hence, 90%.

I would have liked to have known PG. He was smart, erudite, and witty. For all his barbs, he, like Sturgeon, seemed to care.

Saw her open for Bruce Cockburn when he toured "Nothing but a Burning Light", which I think her hubby T-Bone Burnett produced and played a little guitar on, back in the mid 90's.  Sam (Leslie?) has a really nice style and is a witty, very cool person for sure.  I think I own a cassette of "The Turning', her last contemporary Christian effort which was very clever and interesting, kind of her "swan song" for that genre as you could almost see the little wheels turning saying "something isn't adding up for me here".  I was meandering in the same direction spiritually so it was kind of encouraging to see at least one artist I admired going through the same personal journey.

See Ya!  Rebecca rocks, too!

Have to admit, I've said that to myself before...

Damn. That piece of knowledge just ruined my enjoyment of her.

Idiotic comment of the day.

Just substitute any other group for 'Christian' in your comment and listen to what a bigot you sound like.

Christian or not....this is not very good....I pray that some of her other tunes are much better
Seriously, what is it to you?
I have no dog in this fight but your comment is as shallow as someone slamming an artist for not being Christian. But whatever. Closed-minded folks come from all walks....

I'm not sure she started as a truly "Christian artist" so much as recorded on a Christian artist label. Really don't know, though.

Yes, she is in a subtle but provocative state of demi-desabillé (spelling?) ;-). More importantly, though, it's a very fine song. An easy 7 from the Nottingham jury.

when this song first came on I thought it was K.T. Tunstall......

Yeah .. and you'll see the back of my head.

Sorry about the bald spot, though.

Crazy low frequency in this tune.  It's shaking the house, even at background music levels.  Cool.

different.

I like new and different.

apparently some below like a narrower band of music.

I'm beginning to think that they are all not really people... I know for a fact that George Bush is a hologram, a social experiment, set up to see how far he could push people before they killed him. Gotta start thinking Essex and Excelsior are a bit dodgy too... notice the E's, X's And S's... gotta be some form of code! {#Curtain}

It's kinda funny actually. I mean, they certainly get our attention, not unlike George Bush aiming his war machine at insignificant world players. Only problem is, everyone ends up suffering cause of their ignorance.{#Naughty}

For those of you who haven't noticed, Excelsior hasn't been around for a few weeks. I don't know if Bill finally gave him the axe or he just plain gave up. Either way, please stop re-posting his comments. Thanks.

Take some Pepto will ya Excelsior?   You puke on every song.

He has rated nearly 1400 songs a 1. Why the Hell doesnt he find a classic rock station somewhere else.

Awesome song! Love it.

Innovative, witty, intellectual yet simple arrangements, and great showmanship. If you can hear her live, I highly recommend it.

Also, opening for Phillips was Samantha Crain, a new artist out of Oklahoma; very powerful alt-country, murder-ballad stuff. I uploaded a song of hers onto RP's site, and I hope they start to play her soon, but you can check her out on myspace.

I'm down.  No problem with simple and effective here.

No thanks.  {#Grumpy}
 Is she doing her laundry?
