Hey, Bill, whenya gonna play a better song from these guys?!? Please?

And I guess the answer is ...NEVER!
This song hasn't been played in over 13 years.
If all of you critics had ever seen Brave Combo live, you might feel differently. "Nuclear Polka" as they refer to it, can be hilarious. They also do Purple Haze and I've even heard them play "Material Girl" as a polka. They are terrific musicians and musicologists as well and play a lot of swing, tango, reggae in addition to Klezmer stuff. Have seen them at least a dozen times, and the crowd ALWAYS has a great time. As the Joker once said, "Gentlemen, Let's Expand Our Minds." They are just plain fun live. They've also won several Grammys for their music.

Back in the day, the Doors were arguably one of the most pretentious live acts around between literary posings and drunken rants. It was sad as they were capable of burning down the house from time to time. Anyway, I find this version to be a totally fitting salute to the boys.
Pretentious?? How old are you lad? Anyway, I am sure Morrison would have truly enjoy this interpretation...
Please make the bad noise stop!
This last set of music (and I use the term loosely) really sucked.
I saw these guys in Portland, Me. A wild night of crazy dancing, truly astonishing music and frivolity. Don't pass up the chance to see them!
:headshake:
Attack of the klezmer!
Someone please make it stop!!!
One of the very few times I have turned RP off. This thing just plain sucks! I'll keep an eye on the playlist to see when it is over.

Really, REALLY bad. Jim just rolled over.
not *good*, as such, but it's nice to shake things up a bit.

These guys are excellent musicians and Musical Varieties has better cuts than this -- hope to hear some variety from this CD soon!
you gotta be brave to butcher a song like this.
Comments to several of you 1) its music like this that makes you appreciate the better works 2) I've actually reversed my Johnny Cash feelings... most of his remakes I actually find quite good and am VERY greatful to Bill & Becca & RP for playing them.. as they are diverse and have their own touches... and all of them are better than this version of People are Strange... 3) ahhh the virus of the mind..

Uh, why? Weird Al have some relatives trying to muscle in on his turf?

Wow, you're right. It does deserve a 2.
Jim's rolled over so many times now, they're calling him Pinwheel :)

Yeah Brave Combo hip hip hooray. A great Denton Texas Band for all of you folks outside of the great country. more more more please
Yes! One of many great Denton bands!! Glad to hear some Denton people are on RP too. Now, if we could only get some Earl Harvin, Hairy Apes, and some old Good Foot uploaded to RP!
A friend played this for me the other day for the first time... freaked me out then, freaks me out now... but I'm oddly drawn to it....
I could go without hearing this ever again.
Is he one of the lost Knights of Oingo Boingo?
Is it glitchy today or is it just me?
Oh my! This is HORRIBLE!!!

That's not too nice to Johnny.
What johnny did to those songs was not nice.
Lighten up! It's a fun, NOVEL rendition. Just enjoy!
A klezmer cover of a Doors song? This is really strange. But that is what makes this station fun (but don\'t overdo it).

Calling the world renowned, Grammy winning Brave Combo (who've been around since the 70s) "Squirrel Nut Zippers wannabes" is both sad and laughable .
Clearly, most of RP\'s listeners are not familiar with \"nuclear polka\" the genre pioneered by Brave Combo 20+ years ago.
As bad as that was, I\'d rather hear that than any of the johnny cash covers.
The Doors version is sure going to seem slow from now on.
Wow, this is really bad. I\'ve done better covers with my armpit. Please make it stop!!!!
This ROOOOLLLLLLZZZZZ!! (Just kidding.)
Uh, ok.
Just me or are there some skips in this mpeg? As for the song itself...I always like odd covers
Ouch...Jim has got be turning in his grave at this point. Well, that is, if he were really dead. Which, you know, he isn\'t. :D
This is great. Thanks, Bill and Rebecca! Perfect in the set after Zappa and before the real deal. Sounds great in the mix. Well done.
I find it amuzing that the song kept glitching while playing.. perhaps even the server was trying to get it over with as quickly as possible.. :)

A \"1\", but only out of charity...
Well, this is certainly bad. An attempt at being clever that doesn\'t work.
Dosen\'t sound like many people like this, but if you do, check out the band Lounge Against the Machine.. ;)
What a fun song to get me through the day! I like offbeat covers like this. Thanks for the introduction to a band I hadnt heard of before!

I've seen 'em live many times - they're one of the world's great party bands. They're huge overseas, but don't get much coverage here.
I like this; it's just a fun take on a great tune. I'm all for unexpected covers. (I have a recording of Richard Nixon doing Folsom Prison Blues, for instance.) I like the fact that they're not just trying to do it straight, but with ther instruments and voices, like so many other covers. Instead, they're putting a new spin on it. Ihave to give credit for that. (Nothing wrong with the original, though. Still like the Doors just fine, thanks...) Be well -UF
I\'d rather listen to this version than the Doors anyday.
aieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! who let Weird Al out again??
One of my favorite covers!!! (I Love cover tunes - I have a collection of nine 90-minute cassettes of nothing but cover tunes!) & those are just the ones I recorded!?!?!?! Oh yeah, add one more 90-minute cassette of BEATLES tunes ONLY!!! (titled \"The Dream Is Over,\" final song . . . Magical Misery Tour from National Lampoon\'s Radio Dinner, (home of \"Deteriorata,\" among other comedy classics!)
David Byrne had Brave Combo play at his wedding reception.
The Doors performing at a Star Wars cantina, as influenced by Kinky Friedman.
I would actually rather listen to this version than the Doors\' version.
Why not? Certainly adds a showtune quality to it.

No worse than the Doors' version.
