In the time of chimpanzees I was a monkey
Butane in my veins and I'm out to cut the junkie
With the plastic eyeballs, spray-paint the vegetables
Dog food stalls with the beefcake pantyhose
Kill the headlights and put it in neutral
Stock car flamin' with a loser and the cruise control
Baby's in Reno with the vitamin D
Got a couple of couches, sleep on the love-seat
Someone came in sayin' I'm insane to complain
About a shotgun wedding and a stain on my shirt
Don't believe everything that you breathe
You get a parking violation and a maggot on your sleeve
So shave your face with some mace in the dark
Savin' all your food stamps and burnin' down the trailer park
Yo, cut it
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Double-barrel buckshot)
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
Forces of evil in a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
'Cause one's got a weasel and the other's got a flag
One's on the pole, shove the other in a bag
With the rerun shows and the cocaine nose-job
The daytime crap of the folksinger slob
He hung himself with a guitar string
A slab of turkey-neck and it's hanging from a pigeon wing
You can't write if you can't relate
Trade the cash for the beef for the body for the hate
And my time is a piece of wax falling on a termite
That's choking on the splinters
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Get crazy with the cheeze whiz)
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Drive-by body pierce)
Yo, bring it on down
(I'm a driver, I'm a winner)
(Things are gonna change I can feel it)
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(I can't believe you)
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Sprechen Sie deutsch, baby?)
Soy un perdedor
I'm a loser baby, so why don't you kill me?
(Know what I'm sayin'?)
Alone, listless
Breakfast table in an otherwise empty room
Young girl, violence
Center of her own attention
The mother reads aloud, child tries to understand it
Tries to make her proud
The shades go down, it's in her head
Painted room, can't deny there's something wrong
Don't call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me
She holds the hand that holds her down
She will rise above
Don't call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me daughter, not fit to me
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me daughter, not fit to
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me daughter, not fit to me
The picture kept will remind me
Don't call me
(The shades go down)
(The shades go down)
(The shades go, go)
(Go)
Here comes the sun, doo 'n' doo doo.
Here comes the sun, 'n' I say,
It's all right.
Little darlin', it's been a long cold lonely winter.
Little darlin', it feels like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, doo 'n' doo doo.
Here comes the sun, 'n' I say,
It's all right.
Little darlin', the smiles returning to their faces,
Little darlin', it seems like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, doo 'n' doo doo.
Here comes the sun, 'n' I say,
It's all right.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes.
Little darlin', I feel that ice is slowly melting.
Little darlin', it seems like years since it's been here.
Here comes the sun, doo 'n' doo doo.
Here comes the sun, 'n' I say,
It's all right.
On waves of love, my heart is breaking
And stranger still, my self-control I can't rely on anymore
New tide, surprise, my world is changing
Within this frame an ocean swell behind the smile, I know it well
Beneath a lover's moon I'm waiting
I am the pilot of the storm, adrift in pleasure I may drown
I built this ship, it is my making
And furthermore, my self-control, I can't rely on anymore
I know why
I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh no, oh no
Who claims that no man is an island?
While I land up in jeopardy, more distant from you by degrees
I walk this shore in isolation
And at my feet eternity, draws ever sweeter plans for me
I know why
I know why
Crazy on a ship of fools
Ah, crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh no, oh no, ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh, no
Crazy on a ship of fools
Ah, crazy on a ship of fools
Turn this boat around, back to my loving ground
Oh no, oh no, ship of fools
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
'Til there are no rich no more
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, No none for me
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Oh yeah!
World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Senators stop the war
I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you
Looking down on empty streets
All she can see
Are the dreams all made solid
Are the dreams made real
All of the buildings
All of the cars
Were once just a dream
In somebody's head
She pictures the broken glass
Pictures the steam
She pictures a soul
With no leak at the seam
Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness
Let's take the boat out
Wait until darkness comes
Nowhere in the corridors
Of pale green and gray
Nowhere in the suburbs
In the cold light of day
There in the midst of it
So alive and alone
Words support like bone
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Wear you're inside out
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of Mercy Street
I swear they moved that sign
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms
Pulling out the papers
From the drawers that slide smooth
Tugging at the darkness
Word upon word
Confessing all the secret things
In the warm velvet box
To the priest, he's the doctor
He can handle the shocks
Dreaming of the tenderness
The tremble in the hips
Of kissing Mary's lips
Dreaming of Mercy Street
Wear you're inside out
Dreaming of mercy
In your daddy's arms again
Dreaming of Mercy Street
I swear they moved that sign
Looking for mercy
In your daddy's arms
Mercy, mercy
Looking for Mercy Street
Looking for mercy
Mercy
Looking for mercy
Looking for mercy
Looking for mercy
Oh, looking for mercy
Looking for mercy
Anne, with her father
Is out in the boat
Riding the water
Riding the waves on the sea
Standing on the moon
I got no cobweb on my shoe
Standing on the moon
I'm feeling so alone and blue
I see the gulf of Mexico
As tiny as a tear
The coast of California
Must be somewhere over here - over here
Standing on the moon
I see the battle rage below
Standing on the moon
I see the soldiers come and go
There's a metal flag beside me
Someone planted long ago
Old Glory standing stiffly
Crimson, white and indigo - indigo
I see all of Southeast Asia
I can see El Salvador
I hear the cries of children
And the other songs of war
It's like a mighty melody
That rings down from the sky
Standing here upon the moon
I watch it all roll by - all roll by
Standing on the moon
With nothing else to do
A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you
Standing on the moon
I see a shadow on the sun
Standing on the moon
The stars go fading one by one
I hear a cry of victory
And another of defeat
A scrap of age old lullaby
Down some forgotten street
Standing on the moon
Where talk is cheap and vision true
Standing on the moon
But I would rather be with you
Somewhere in San Francisco
On a back porch in July
Just looking up to heaven
At this crescent in the sky
Standing on the moon
With nothing left to do
A lovely view of heaven
But I'd rather be with you - be with you
Belladonna's on the high street
Her breasts upon the off beat
And the stalls are just the side shows
Victoriana's old clothes
And yes, her jeans are tight now
She gonna travel light now
She got to tear up all her roots now
She got the turn up for the boots now
She thinks she's tough
She ain't no English rose
Oh, but the blind singer
He's seen enough and he knows
Yes, and he do a song
About a long gone Irish girl
Oh, but I got one for you
Portobello belle
She sees a man upon his back there
Escaping from a sack there
And Belladonna lingers
Her gloves they got no fingers
Yeah, the blind man singing Irish
He gets his money in a tin dish
Just a corner serenader
Upon a time he could have made her, made her
Yeah, she thinks she's tough
She ain't no English rose
Oh, but the blind singer
He's seen enough and he knows
Yes, and he do a song
About a long gone Irish girl
Oh, but I got one for you
Portobello belle
Yes, and these barrow boys are hawking
And a parakeet is squawking
Upon a truck, there's a rhino
She get the crying of a wino
And then, she gets the reggae rumble
Belladonna's in the jungle
But she is no garden flower
There is no distress in the tower
Oh, Belladonna walks
Belladonna taking a stroll
But she don't care about your window box
Or your buttonhole
Yes, and she sing a song
About a long gone Irish girl
Oh, I got one for you
Portobello belle
Portobello belle

Let it down, let it down, let it down now
Let it down, let it down, let it down now
Let it down, let it down, let it down now
I always hate nostalgia
Living in the past
No use getting misty-eyed
It all screamed by so fast
When life was so much calmer
Severely buttoned up
The future rich in promises
Milk flowing from the cup
I would spend those lazy days
Lying on a ridge
Watching girls in cotton dresses
Diving off the bridge
Is it too far gone?
Is it too far gone?
Is it too, too far
Too far gone
This was once the country
Now its all the town
What was once the tallest spire
Is just a building crumblin' down
And I'm living in a factory
That's a million dollar flat
I'm not looking for Arcadia
Cause its never coming back
I would spend my childhood days
Lost in starry dreams
And now watch my children
Just downloading them to screens
Let it down, let it down, let it down
Let it down, let it down, let it down
'Cause it's too far gone
It's too far gone
Yeah, it's too, too far
Too far gone
Let it down, let it down, let it down
I'm lying in the garden
Carpets in the shade
Thinking of the future
And all the love we saved
The world outside is ugly
It's bitter and it's harsh
Well, each of us protect ourselves
We're hostage of the past
And it's too far gone
Yeah, it's too far gone
I wonder where did we go wrong
And it's too, too far
And it's too, too far
Too far gone
Demons in the bedroom
Dogs are on the roof
I am in the basement
Looking for the truth
Tired of being patient
For the voice to come
If you want the answer
There is only one, only one
Her flesh is smooth and supple
And velvet as the night
Her eyes are shot with diamonds
A mouth full of delight
There's a goddess in the doorway
Asking how much can I take
And it looks like she's heading my way
There's a goddess in the doorway
Demons in the bedroom
Dogs are on the loose
Driving in the backstreets
Looking for the truth
I'm searching for your temple
Hunting for your shrine
I'm looking for a vision
By a neon sign
There's a goddess in the doorway
Asking how much, how much can I take
And it looks like she's heading my way
There's a goddess in the doorway
And her tears flow like a fountain
Like a river from the mountain
How much
How much can I take
How much, how much can I take
There's a goddess in the doorway
Asking how much can I take
And it looks like she's heading my way
There's a goddess in the doorway
How much
How much can I take?
Asking how much, how much, how much

That Karl guy from World Party sounds a lot like Mick Jagger sometimes! ;-)
Meh
Don't really understand how this can continue to get airplay with a 3.6 average rating.  I've hardly ever seen anything below 5.0 still on the air.
Haven't heard the album but I like this song. Did anyone see that documentary on the Biography Channel on him? Sort of a day in the life?
A very different sound for Mick. I like it.
I just noticed the album cover. Is the "A" for armpit? Is he saying this album is worth stuffing under your arm? Is he saying that his axilla is actually the doorway for the goddess? Or was he indicating the worth of this album as a warning to prospective buyers?
I recall reading Keef referred to this album as "Dog Shit in the Doorway". I gave it a 2, although I wouldn't call it dogshit. Bit of fancy production (and not even much of that) over a very average song.

That reminds me of a review of RHCP's Californication that I read. The reviewer, tongue firmly in cheek, wrote "He sounds like Anthony Keidis, if Keidis could sing." Edit: ontopic: but really, Jagger was probably just given the benefit of the pitch corrector. (for that matter, Keidis may have enjoyed the same benefit for his album).
I recall watching some sort of special on Mick Jagger about the release of this album and an interview with Wyc. Jean. He said as he watched Jagger crooning in the booth, and was having recollections like, wow what Mick just did reminds me of how Bono works, and Sting, and he went on to name a few equally famous front men, how they move, how they sing, etc. Then he said he suddenly realized he wasn't watching Mick imitate, he was watching Mick simply being Mick!!! All others had taken pieces from Mick. This alone speaks volumes about the depth of influence the Iconic Mick Jagger has had on generations.
"God Gave Me Everything" from this CD is a good tune.

I'd give it a 6.893
I don't see why this is getting such a bad reaction here. A bit overproduced perhaps, but I like it just the same.
Never heard this before. Not bad, not great. Reserving score until I hear it a few times. Not typical Mick song.I will either grow to despise this song or like it somewhat. Oh yeah, the Love Boat theme in the background..funny!
not bad... better than recent work. i could listen to it again.

Me too, but I'm generally a really forgiving sort of guy.
I'll stick my neck out and say that I gave it a 7.

How is it that it says "Last Played: Never" but has comments that are not from right now? Also, question to the crowd: Would it really be so bad if it was not Mick Jagger? How much of the negative reaction is because he fails to deliver refried Stones, thus spoiling people's expectations?
Presumably the last played counter has been reset last time Bill replaced his server, whenever that was between 2003 and 2008.
jagger didn't do it on his own, he had kravitz and wyc. jean doing it all for him, with mick whining out of tune on one track. I agree with Keith's Dogshit in the Doorway comment.

Jagger doing the disco on The Loveboat?
How much can I take indeed? Not much more.
i wonder if it has to do with a generation gap or something? i liked the stuff he came out with when he was young, but but as he's gotten older, i just don't relate.
I normally don't rate bad songs nor do I comment on them(not worth my time). This one however i will make an exception. This sucks big time.
This sounds like a Marianne Faithful tune. I think I would have preferred her singing
"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment." -- Buddha Presently, this song stinks.

Like Keith put it in one of his songs; 'you don't move me anymore' (so, they only came back together for old times sake- and business?) Well Mick certainly has moved me more than he does.
The kind of 'movement' this song brings on isn't for polite conversation.
Ugh. Written and recorded on auto-pilot.
Like Keith put it in one of his songs; \'you don\'t move me anymore\' (so, they only came back together for old times sake- and business?) Well Mick certainly has moved me more than he does. But, all my life he and the other Stones have been around and i\'m glad, most of them, still are. They\'ve just become an important part of my life, I quess.
Hearing this song so often makes me think I am listening to my local radio stations - \'repetitive unimaginative rock\'
Boring boring boring. C\'mon, Mick...
impressive song. I didn\'t think Jagger could do it on his own
