Above, below
Under a lonely star
Head to toe, hand in hand
It gets a whole lot better
If your telephone rings at night
Would you put some time aside
To shut your eyes and fall apart
Under the light of a lonely star
My one and only lonely star
Above, below
Under a lonely star
Another day to sit around and dream
As far as I can see
As long as memory
I'll be watching from afar
Under the light of a lonely star
My one and only lonely star
Fire burning
Clean-cut flowers in the yard
Daylight turning
All the sleeping statues into girls
I feel nothing
Sleep is never coming
I hear laughter from afar
Must be the song of a lonely star
If you knew what would happen
Then you'd never set foot in the mansion door
So many voices singing all of your praises
It gets a whole lot better
It gets a whole lot better
I hope it gets a whole lot better
If you leave, please don't go far
I need the light of a lonely star
My one and only lonely star

Seems like this should be rated higher. Me thinks RP listeners see an artist in a cowboy hat and immediately lower their opinion. Total understandable, but this is a good tune! A solid 8
He sings "Above, below", but I can't not hear that as "A buffalo". I guess when you live in Buffalo, you hear it everywhere.

I think some of the hate is because he will basically switch genres mid-song (i.e. accoustic bouncy melody into power chord rock guitar)
Don't get the hate for this track... solid 7 from me

I don't care what the negative nellies and nattering nabobs of negativity say. This is a good song. I bumped it up from a 7 to an 8 out of spite.

It's a solid skip.
Confession time - there are a few artists on here whose bio pictures I find a bit of a turn-off; Shakey Graves, Greg Brown, Chris Stapleton (don't ask me - the heart knows what the heart knows) so I haven't really paid attention to Mr Graves. Howver, my son is a big fan and I have to say I really like this song. I'll be less prejudiced in future (I hope).
This has a very different sound from SG that I am familiar with. Good but different.
Random association. This album cover instantly evokes Bowie's Ziggy Stardust album cover for me.
I'm hearing a distinct riff from Nirvana's "In Bloom"...
w/o that, I'd give it a solid 4.5...

I like Shakey Graves - their(his) style is unique and thoughtful. Production is very interesting.

Of course, you're entitled to your opinion but, this man AND his music, are certainly not even in the "generic" neighborhood. Actually, quite the opposite.
A little generic but not bad.

Shakey Graves is the musician love interest for the coach's daughter in one season of Friday Night Lights. All of a sudden, I said "I know that voice" and looked up his real name.

Nope. See the artist blurb. It was a joke name his friends came up with over a music fest campfire, after a tripping stranger said something funny.
just curious if the name is a riff on Shady Grove?
love that tune...
