When they bring that wagon round
When they come to call on you
And drag your poor body down
Just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you knew my name
My darling, Sugaree
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
You thought you was the cool fool
And never would do no wrong
You had everything sewed up tight
How come you lay awake all night long
Just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you knew my name
My darling, Sugaree
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Well in spite of all you gained
You still have to stand out in the pouring rain
One last voice is calling you
And I guess it's time you go
Just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you knew my name
My darling, Sugaree
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Well shake it up now, Sugaree
I'll meet you at the jubilee
And if that jubilee don't come
Maybe I'll meet you on the run
Just one thing I ask of you
Just one thing for me
Please forget you knew my name
My darling, Sugaree
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Shake it, shake it, Sugaree
Just don't tell them that you know me
Good enough. The fact that it isn't "Dead Enough" doesn't matter to me. I guess, you had to be there.
For me, too close to the original to be worth the effort.

like a live show
It's time we all started a rumour that Matthew Houck is Gerry's unacknowledged son. You kind of have to stretch your imagination to find complaints with this cover. I'm leaving my imagination unstretched and loving the legacy this celebrates....
Haven't you ever heard of Gerry Jarcia?
Dyslexics untie!
Indeed, however, um, that's more of a Spoonerism.
I also have always thought this was the Dead.
Well, there is a Dead version ... so you're not crazy. Well, I mean you may be crazy, but it's not because of THIS.
Just so you know, the original version of this song is from Jerry Garcia's first solo album and isn't a Dead song. But the lyrics were written by Robert Hunter who wrote the lyrics for many of the Dead's songs.
And the Grateful Dead played this song many. many times.
I was certain this was Grateful Dead until I looked at what was playing.

The Grateful Devotees. Jerry Garcia is now immortal.

Who the F is "Gerry?"
No complaints about the cover, but Gerry??
H8
I don't hate them for that, it's a good sound for sure.
Whatever happened to "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."?
Exactly.
Sacrilege.
Yes, but that's a mighty good rhythm going there...
And the GD/JG were less ego driven than other bands, so the distinction is a bit less important (unless you're trying to find/buy the original track) -
And this version is still not up to the same level as JG's; still a 7, just barely, Long Live RP!!
BIG phan of Phosphorescent!
I guess I'll be one of the few to say I like this better than the original. Not a dead fan by a long shot - this at least feels like it has some ground.
I don't know the original but other GD-songs I do know give me reason to agree with you.
Absolutely! pxd
Ditto
Jerry's version gets a 9 from me, maybe a 10. This cover, while he sounds like Jerry, seems a bit too fast, and not as much agony in his voice.
Coattails though, so this gets a 7
Wow.
