Outside, the wind it blows
Those winds of change come home
but the people carry on, on
Although you are not here
Your sacrifice is clear
A president in tears

It don't matter where you stand
On health, on war, on bringing them back
You've been swept away again
You've been swept away again

Inside this rain-soaked mess
lies the president elect
And the billions that were spent, spent
Mother Nature, she's no fool
She sought to drown the few
to save us all from you

It don't matter where you stand
Pro-choice, pro-life, on the deaths in hand
You've been swept away again

You've been swept away again

Sounds kind of Willie Nelson to me.  :-)

I think Willie could capably  interpret this wonderful song    As could the great Johnny Cash if he were still alive.
I just bumped my rating from an "8"  to a "9" simply because I get swept away again every time it plays.
the lyrics are actually fucking brilliant

that just happened to me!
THIS..... this is why I'm here...
God I love this even though it can bring me to tears...
Every time I hear this I like it more and more.

truly delightful song
Love the piano in this, but the vocals and lyrics are only average to me.
I was still brooding over the Pray for Grace guy!

Keep smoking that stuff, my man!
Playing now on the day before the 20th anniversary of 9/11.  Poignant. Perhaps a lot of the songs today will reflect that anniversary.
this is an 8 and everytime I hear it I like it

exactly.
Election in five months.  Hope we don't get swept away again.

Yeah - couldn't agree more. And I love the way his voice is so central to it all - odd and evocative. Sends chills.

Yes, their voices don't sound similar to me, but there is something about that production that sounds very similar to Eno's stuff from the '70s.  Kinda dreamy.
A commentary on America's political situation.
first few notes i thought of Peter Murphy ... this is awesome!!! where oh where would I be without RP ... you guys just rock my world !!

Great band, who deserve much greater recognition.

I did a double-take to the song credit as well!
Somewhere Steve Wynn is still smiling.

Wow, timely. Liking it.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing - seems even more timely today on Jan. 30, unfortunately.
Very nice.  Sometimes reminded me of Mark Knopfler...
Wow, timely. Liking it.
I'm off to Spotify to find some of their stuff.  This is great, thanks for the tip off.

......
I'm back.  Well worth the diversion - some very interesting and calming stuff.

I find you Poly, now do I have look for someone like you.
QUite nice. For some reason it makes me think of Geoff Tate's (Queensryche) voice in Silent Lucidity...
...funny, i immediately knew this was cult with no name, even though i've only ever listened to one of their albums just once, the better part of ten years ago:  distinctive voice!..
Fabulous
just love this sad old lonely song - makes me think of a place I have never been in times I have never seen ...{#Wink}

Ever heard of Steve Wynn? (Again?)   Since 1982 - long list...
Nice voice. Who is he talking about by the way? Not GWB I suppose ...

Bla! Another Bad and Sad song.

Ah geez, not you expressing pure negativity about music, again. I suppose every forum needs to be dragged down from time to time. If so, you are fulfilling your role.

Lots of songs with lyrics about how bad things are here (supposedly).  Check out the "Who's listening where" on the RP main page some time. Check out the number of people tuning in from China, a country over 1 billion in population, 4 times as big as the US.  Why aren't they tuning in? They are not really allowed.  Oh so bad here.

Your comments always express a gung-ho attitude toward the US. This is fine. I live here and do not wish to be anywhere else. However, the freedom and flexibility to observe our collective failings is one of those things that makes this country (USA for non-American listeners) worth complaining about when the numerous real issues that face us arise. I also notice that you tend to disparage those you call socialists, somehow lumping the irrationally idiotic North Koreans, with, I don't know, Sweden. Maybe your perspective on things is the flaw in the ointment, or sand in the vaseline. Comment away! But be willing to question your own assumptions. That is all.

Someone needs to send Peter Murphy a check...
Somewhere, Steve Wynn (Dream Syndicate, the Miracle 3, The Baseball Project) is smiling.

Masterpiece!
Thematic of the song's video reminds me of John Lee Hooker's ''Tupelo'' video.

A unintentionally beautiful work of art.

If the cult had a name, it would be The Reincarnation of Cat Stevens.

(which is not a bad thing)
8 —> 9 for the sweeping piano

Good call kingart!  It's a sort of beautiful image, and almost looks like tire treads at first.
That aerial shot of old warplanes also reminded me of an artist friend, David Smith, a VietNam vet who would do gallery installations using toy soldiers and arsenal pieces layed out in the space so that viewers had to step around them, and at times set off little firework-explosions...kooky funny arrangements done during Bush Senior's term, at store front sized galleries in the East Village, before the art market went so money hungry

Cover art looks like the Bone Yard out in Nevada. Song is kind of an elegy. Bears more listening.
