Brings back memories… had a co-worker friend about 28 years ago who played guitar in the local blues society nights and I went on a blues binge; Muddy Waters was on regular rotation for a long time.

While most jazz and rock 'n' roll certainly have their roots in the blues, it seems like a bit of an overstatement to say that "all modern music started from blues".  A lot of contemporary music forms (some jazz, prog, electronic, experimental, etc.)  are derived from classical structures and international sources, and owe little to the blues structures.
