You need to realise that most African music is telling a story not singing a song in the western sense.

Also much of the African music is highly rhythmic for the purpose of inducing a trance like state. So you end up with a popular tribal pattern being used as a backdrop to a popular story, both will be related and the end product  becomes even more popular.

You should listen to some of the music from Dogon tribes of Mali they're very very rhythmic to the point where they get sampled for us in Drum and Bass trax

A lot of Western music didn't have choruses or bridges, especially traditional folk, blues, and country music.

Waiting for the break? Not really there in African popular music. There is no chorus, usually. Just the main melody repeated with different words. Reminds me of Indian music that way. Always a surprise to *not* hear the "And When I touch You I Feel Happy Inside" change that you expect to be there as in the structure of Western pop music..

That's definitely Youssou N'Dour on background vocals.
They're both from Senegal, where Youssou N'Dour is of the KING of music, AFAIK.
