Yes, a completely different language -- but still a member of the Semetic langauge family, along with Arabic & Hebrew.  As such, it has much more in common with those than it does with Indo-European languages.

I agree. It sounds nothing like Arabic to my ear. I'm half Arab, didn't keep up with the language to my sorrow, but I know what it sounds like. It also sounds nothing like Hebrew.

Sorry to be that guy, but Amharic is VERY different than Hebrew and Arabic. Completely different language ...but I get it, for the average 'American ear', anything that is not English/Latin sounds Arabic. 

Americans need to broaden their horizons and travel internationally more often.

Sure, this song is not mainstream taste, even here on RP, but personally I really like the harmony singing and the weird African/jazz mix. Yes, jazz. But I'm no jazz guru. Herbie Hancock & Wayne Shorter play on this album. And a certain "David Gilmore" (not Gilmour) plays guitar. :p Oh wait, apparently Gilmore is a Jazz musician too.

I you enjoy this one, you should also check out Herbie Hancock's new album future2future - Gigi appears on several tracks. plus it is Herbie's best album since Headhunters (imho, of course)!
