In Carrie Fisher's one woman play that I saw her perform in Berkeley, "Wishful Drinking", she does a family tree history of her life, which includes
 her famous entertainment industry parents, Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher. When she gets to Paul Simon she says that "She Moves On" was the song he wrote about their break up.

This whole album has such a smooth, unhurried feel to it. Not quite ambient, since it has a little more pulse. But not as insistent as most music.

A really pleasant groove.

As great as "Graceland" is, "Rhythm of the Saints" has always been my favorite Simon album, and easily one of my Top 10 of all time.  That said, Simon's latest, "So Beautiful or So What" is fantastic.

Ermm...He wrote "The Capeman, a musical that bombed on Broadway in '98. He put out the CD "Surprise" in '06. And he came out with a new album, "So Beautiful Or So What" this year; RP has played some of the songs from it. 

I've always wondered whether this song is about the end of his marriage to Carrie Fisher—I know he makes reference to her in "Graceland." It just amazes me that they were ever involved; now that I look on Wikipedia, they were together (on and off) for almost ten years. Carrie in her day was doing all sorts of drugs; she had a reputation of being able to party as hard as John Belushi did before that speedball did him in. Then you throw in her bipolar disorder...Paul Simon OTOH seems as mild and clean as a church mouse.

I first learned about this fight over "The Myth of Fingerprints" from another RPer. I tend to believe Los Lobos on this one. If you rely only on the Wikipedia article, Paul Simon pretty much dances around the issue and never states "Yes, I wrote this song on my own."

The way I see it, Paul screwed over Los Lobos when it came to "Myth"—or tried to. But the guy has decades of hits that he undisputedly wrote on his own.

Agree on the fact that the soundtrack was great. Disagree, I'm afraid, on the recommendation of the film (and I was a big fan of the graphic novel). But let a thousand flowers bloom!

As were Dylan, Leonard Cohen, My Chemical Romance, Hendrix, Billie Holliday, Nina Simone, Nat "King" Cole, and Janis Joplin. I can strongly recommend the film, but go to the bathroom before it starts. It's a very intricate story, and the film is nearly 3 hours long! {#Embarassed}

A really beautiful album that has been in the shadow of Graceland for far too long. Not a weak song on this one. A desert island disc for me.

The bass twang at the beginning has made me smile ever since I first heard this song in dance class in HS. Thanks, Betsy! (me dancing, but should be a slower version of this guy){#Dancingbanana}

Amen to that! I couldn't agree more. Paul is #1 on my list of the most talented songwriter-musicians ever. He can rock out, he can whisper the most beautiful ballads, he incorporated elements of "world music" way before it was hip. He has endured for nearly 50 years with NO slumps in his output or quality. Always intelligent and eclectic!

Dead Can Dance - The Snake and the Moon into Paul Simon - She Moves On Awesome transition. Not my favorite track off RotS but still very good, so it gets an 8.

Sometimes this album gets pegged for being Graceland's loser cousin but it has some truly wonderful stuff. A song like this just grooves so nicely it burrows into your subconscious in a beautiful way. The perfect poetic lyrics are a bonus.
