Crash and burn
All the stars explode tonight
How'd you get so desperate?
How'd you stay alive?

Help me, please
Burn the sorrow from your eyes
Oh, come on be alive again
Don't lay down and die!

Hey, hey
You know what to do
Oh, baby, drive away from Malibu

Get well soon
Please don't go any higher
How are you so burnt when
You're barely on fire?

Cry to the angels
I'm gonna rescue you
I'm gonna set you free tonight, baby
Pour over me

Hey, hey
We're all watching you
Oh, baby, fly away to Malibu
Cry to the angels
And let them swallow you
Go and part the sea, yeah, in Malibu

And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And the sun goes down
I walk into the waves
And the sun goes down
I watch you slip away
And I would

And I knew
Love would tear you apart
Oh, and I knew
The darkest secret of your heart

Hey, hey
I'm gonna follow you
Oh baby, fly away, yeah, to Malibu
Oceans of angels
Oceans of stars
Down by the sea is where you
Drown your scars

I can't be near you
The light just radiates
I can't be near you
The light just radiates

I like it....a nice tune that I don't often hear....thanks for the spin... :-)
Bloody awful singing. Get it tuned.

Gonna put Mick Jagger on the list and remove Neil Young.
This was a great pop song from a great album by Hole's best line-up, full stop. Auf Der Maur's backing vocals are great and she is such a solid, economical rock bassist.

Hole sounded their best with just a little bit of sheen, like they did here.

Yes, yes we can.

Gonna guess every complainer about Love’s voice is a huge fan of Thom Yorke’s festering itch of a voice. FFS people, a LOT of rockers have less than ideal voices. Billy Corgan, anyone? Geddy Lee? Tom Waits?

Her less than perfect voice only adds to the song in my opinion. Which makes it perfect. Good stuff!

yours? btw I'm a huge (let's be honest - fat!) Tom Waits fan ;D

I love his work too! But Waits's voice is objectively not good. He just knows more about using his voice than 9 out of 10 other singers.

I love this song and it breaks my heart every time I hear it.

the fact that she has succeeded as a singer simply astounds me.. she has one of the worst singing voices i've ever heard.. even off-key at times.. goes to show it really can be all about image instead of quality

It's down to her songwriting I suppose. Many many many singer/songwriters are not strong singers.
Hole is the voice for young teenage girls especially the un popular and throw aways. That being said I love her rough and raw style. If I judged my favorite artists on their personal lives I would be a short list. The music matters, forget the rest.
One of the 90's most underrated albums, notwithstanding that this song is pretty bland. Whatever you think of Courtney, the woman could rock.

His death was the best thing that happened to her career.

I used to really like this song. Then the more compelling "evidence" I saw about how she may have very well had him murdered.....made it hard to listen to.

And I don't buy easily into conspiracy theories. But damn. She had ALL kinds of reasons. This possibly being one of 'em. He was her cash cow and was about to divorce her.

Boy, I haven't heard this for a long time.  Great song off a surprisingly good album.
try older hole and really enjoy c.love's edge
This song is back on my high-rotation list. I rediscovered it recently - and the two Hole albums Live Through This and Celebrity Skin. I'm particularly drawn to this song by the lushness of the production - and I finally realized it is Melissa Auf Der Maur's backing vocals that really do it. Hooray Canada!

First Hole song I've ever heard. Gotta say, the vocals sound a bit weak to me.  Guitar work is nice enough though.

The vocals are b-a-d...well, at least Courtney's. It sounds like she doesn't know the lyrics and is feeling her way through the song for the first or second time.

I firmly believe that we never would have heard of Courtney Love if it weren't for Kurt Cobain.
Hi
s death was the best thing that happened to her career. Courtney just stretched out her 15 minutes by acting like the love-child of Dennis Rodman and Lindsay Lohan. Good riddance to all three of 'em.

It has a good feel,  I like it !  I think I will play it in the ballpark.

I don't care what anyone thinks, I love this album from start to finish, and this is my favorite song.

This was a good band, they rocked it live, as well.

From looking at the comments it appears her reputation overshadows the music somewhat.

I love this album, I think it's fantastic and totally underrated.

I'm not a huge Billy Corgan fan but he did have a heavy hand in the making of this album and I think he should take a majority of the credit for the songwriting, at least musically.

This album (and especially this song) has always sounded like Smashing Pumpkins being sung by Courney to me.

I don't care what anyone thinks. I LOVE this song and this whole album (though I'm guessing it has as much to do with Billy Corgan and Melissa Auf Der Maur as with Courtney). I kinda consider the album a curtural landmark that signaled the final death of grunge and the rise of the new celebrity reality TV-culture we're stuck in today... This album makes me think of TMZ and Paris Hilton and Charlie Sheen and Celebrity Apprentice/Rehab...

I liked this song "back in the day" — but now when I hear it I can't get past all the really awful history associated with Courtney Love and it negates any enjoyment factor that was previously there.  I'm not one to overly intellectualizing the process of enjoying music, and enjoy music by some pretty awful human beings, but this one just makes me feel really sad.
I have always liked this song... and its has also been a big surprise to me...

Its like Sheryl Crow on a little more crack.

Hey, this is one of the Hole songs I love! Glad to see it here at RP. {#Music}

if you're a gunge artist - make sure that you can't sing - if you can, you'll never make it. i can't believe faith no more ever took her on - but i can believe that they ditched her for being unpleasent to deal with, as well as her inability to sing.

"Love would tear you apart...." Yes it can!!!
I know squat about guitar but this segued out of Nick Lowe's Cruel to be Kind and I think they share a sound, sort of. So, uh, way to go, I guess.
Lord, Courtney Love is such a nasty hag.
Dios mio, this is not good!
Wed Dec 11, 2002 - 19:34 By: gandalfbmg Location: Liberty, MO Forget Cournety... love that Melissa Auf Der Maur! Her backing vocals, and presence in the videos, made Celebrity Skin a much more enjoyable experience. I completely agree. Auf Der Maur is a babe.

I feel the same way.
i\'m in love with courtney love especially the so-called \'dirty\' courtney and who is kurt cobain?
I didn't think I could ever hear someone I really dislike on here
as much as i have a extreme dislike for her, i rather dig this song.
Kinda sounds like The Pretenders...except the singing and song writing are no where nearly as good.

When this came on, I had to surf over to read the comments as I knew they\'d be good! For me she falls into the same category as Oasis: some very likeable pop tunes by very unlikeable singers. Ah well, if that\'s not rock and roll, what is?
What a horrible singer. I\'m amazed that this song\'s rating isn\'t worse.
I think there\'s a secret Hollywood lottery where one lucky talentless, grating, wasted hack gets to have a career, and Courtney won it.

I agree completely. Basic good ol' rock-n-roll.
I didn\'t get Hole when I heard tracks from Live through This. I didn\'t think she could sing worth a damn on her cover of Gold Dust Woman(or some FW Mac song), but this album is excellent. Other good tracks for RP are Celebrity Skin, Awful, Boy\'s on the Radio, Heaven Tonight and Petal. I\'m sure I\'m missing a few other good tracks. Kevin
Courtney Love is the Devil incarnate. she is a disgrace to Kurt\'s memory. that being said - yes, the song ain\'t half bad.
