Just discovered this gem: Serenade Radio

Serenade Radio – Radio Like It Used To Be

Serenade Radio is the brainchild of Andy Marriott. Andy has worked in broadcasting, both radio and TV since 1981. Over the years he found it increasingly difficult to find something to listen to on the radio. All the stations that pledged to serve the older age group were apparently turning their backs on that audience and focusing on youth.

So, in February 2015, Serenade Radio was born. Right from the start Andy chose to keep the station free of commercial content of any kind, an oasis of calm in a frantic world. There are no adverts and no sponsorship, and there never will be. This, of course, means no money coming in. No money to pay presenters, so the challenge was to find professionals who would give their time and experience to the station for free. Andy’s friends and colleagues rallied round, many it seems had also found themselves with nothing to listen to!

The station is loosely based on the old Light Programme, where quality and a sense of warmth and old-fashioned values were paramount.

We have just played….. Steyn's Song Of The Week - Begin The Beguine
A Traditional Sunday Singalong - Sing Something Simple
Sam Cooke - Too Young
The Living Voices - Witchcraft
Val Doonican - Dream On Little Dreamer
The Jive Aces - Mack The Knife
Joe Loss And His Orchestra - Begin The Beguine
Dean Martin - Mississippi Mud
Ella Fitzgerald - It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing
Nat King Cole - It's Only A Paper Moon

It's a postapocalyptic postmodern jukebox. I don't do Spotify but a friend convinced me to make an exception and now I owe him ...something.

I have a Yes CTTE DVD with the music minus the vocals and it’s fun to see how much of Close to the Edge I can nail without following Jon. (Not as much as I thought).
So, today, driving, anyone looking into the car saw me wailing “1985” as best I could. But that synth is a bit much, true.

This is not something I needed, though, just like I don’t know if I ever bothered listening to “Let it Be Naked.”

I wanted to sorta sing along with 1985, too.  But what is good is that the music itself was worthy.  I gotta like the music before I even give the lyrics a chance.  So it works for me in the end

I actually liked Let It Be Naked.  Been a long while since I've played it though.

The Let It Be box with the alternate Get Back album is really good, imho. I actually like it better.  It's fun and really nice to hear The Beatles playing as a live band.  By then you kinda forgot that they could play live and be that good without any additional dubs or additions.  The definition of tight.  Let It Be now sounds too polished and slick in comparison.  But that's what The Beatles had to be; was expected of them.

My last or first thought when I got to the end was that this is The Firesign Theatre mix.  I always thought that it was John making all the wisecracks in The Beatles stuff, but now I know otherwise.  At least the DL only cost $13.49.  So I didn't lose too much, but I'll go with a cash grab preying on the completists.

For sure it makes me really appreciate the OG mix all the more.  Let Me Roll It was the only track that felt familiar enough to actually like it.  1985 was hard to listen to with that droning synth in the middle parts, though it was pretty interesting at the end.  Drink To Me works okay.

I'll do a back to back.  Not something I want to do right away though.  I'll definitely start with the new mix because I don't want that to be the last I hear of it.

Listening to RP just now but was searching thru a popular online source for some classical music, something moving like an adagio or allegro.  But then a "favourite" came up and I closed my eyes to immerse myself in Samuel Barber's classic, "Adagio for Strings", a musical masterpiece.   This is the music played in the last scene of the movie Platoon.  It's hauntingly beautiful which often moves me to tears as I remember the desperation of Willem DaFoe's character as he's left behind in Viet Nam.  In my opinion, its musical genius.

Anyway, chilling out to RP.   Happy Saturday night friends.

It’s interesting. But when things like this get released I veer between “Yes! Show me the recipe!” And “OMG. Another cash grab selling something that isn’t finished.”

I can't recall if this was ever in the RP library.  Vague memory that it was used as a theme for something.  Heard a mention of a 'snake story' and this popped into the haid.

Good and bad, I define these terms quite clear, no doubt, somehow
Ah, but I was so much older then I'm younger than that now

Long been a fan of Dylan but it still took me decades to fully comprehend Dylan's monumental critique of the Counterculture.
