Plus gonna try to cook some Dal Tadka with rice as a side dish Recipe doesn't look too challenging, so that should work out fine. Decent vegan dish. Too bad the red lentils I still had are way past the point, where I'd try them. So, that's another item on the shopping list.
I think Thailand was going to get rid of the street vendors but don't know if that happened. Would be a pity, although my niece got horribly sick from going to the wrong one and getting green papaya salad. Doesn't keep well.
I think Singapore regulates them and has designated areas with water, etc.
Melbourne has a big culture of laneways with cafes and restaurants. They also have a lot of bars hidden down alleys. We try to emulate the big city and have a few locations like that. My favourite bar is in a courtyard completely surrounded by buildings. You had to go through a cafe to get in but they managed to squeek their own entrance through another building.
I miss the street kitchens dotted all over Asia (at least they were last time I travelled there back in the Pleistocene. Maybe regulation has put a stop to all of that).

Tried take-out from a cute little burger place down an alley in the centre of town with only outdoor seating. Great ambiance while we were waiting, owner was nice. Food was terrible.

last night i had jamaican corned beef and cabbage from golden krust they have respectable jerk but this twist on a classic was flat out dangerous cb was shredded and mixed in...couldn't stop until it was gone stupid!
