Did today, among other things.
Started to clean my Dad's tools and whatnot out of the garage. My 97 yo Mom decided a couple of months ago that she was selling the house and that I had to come over and take the stuff that has accumulated since the beginning of time. Something out of the blue that I was not either thinking about or prepared to do. I don't have room for most of it, but either I find room or she's tossing. We are not doing well with each other based upon her worsening senility and her increasing paranoias. The first thing she gave me was my Dad's burial flag about a month and a half ago. I thought it odd that she not want to keep it until she was gone, too.
So moving forward to today, while going through the stuff out in the garage I found my Dad's dog tags. He made it to Staff Sergeant in the Army during the Korean War serving stateside. Either during boot camp or shortly thereafter he was asked if he could type. He said yes and immediately became a clerk which kept him stateside during the Conflict. My Mom was right there and did not know what they were. I told her and she asked if I wanted them, as if not, she was going to toss em and I never would have known if I did not find them first. So I do have them and will place them inside the case with his flag which I keep on a shelf in our living room along with pictures and things.
A tough thing for sure.
At least your finding out some good things you didn't know about.
