Got to find me a way
To take me back to yesterday.
How can I ever hope to forget you?

Won't you show me a place
Where I can hide my lonely face?
I know you're going to break my heart if I let you.

Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?

Like a moth to a flame,
Like a song without a name,
I've never been the same since I met you.

Like a bird on the wing,
I've got a brand new song to sing,
I can't keep from singing about you.

Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?

I'm beginning to see
What a fool you've made of me.
I might have to break the law when I find you.

Stop running away;
I've got a better game to play,
You know I can't go on living without you.

Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?
Why does love got to be so sad?

This song was recorded a bit before Derek's time. But I see what you did there.
Great Tune!

Weak track on an otherwise great album. This version throws away any pretence at melody in favour of a tedious thrash with a pyrotechnic guitar solo that is just showing off how fast the notes can be played rather than trying to create something of beauty, emotion and expression, normally Eric's strengths.

Most folks seldom bitched about Eddie van Halen playing too fast.  Just the opposite.  I think this track has good melody.  It's an air guitar special.  And quite emotive.  Plus: drugs, booze and more.

I think "Sweet Sweet Connie" from Little Rock has a few mentions/references.  (RIP)
I remember my brother gave me this album for Xmas 1974 and I never stopped loving him for doing that.  ❤🥴❤😏
Cool. More Duane Allman here just after his thrilling blues guitar on Boz Scaggs' track Loan Me a Dime that Bill played for us earlier today.
Brilliant album but never much liked the mix. You have to struggle to hear Duane behind all that Clapton stuff up front
Great track from consistently my favourite album for the last 40 years...

Love this!
Too many negatives for a song I never found one bit not worthwhile. That's a 9 for me. Go for yourself.   Poor recording? You go for the glass half empty, for me the whole album was in my category of superlative.
Slow it down boys.  Relax.
I own this album.  Due to poor production values, itrates only as a good garage band.  But it has Layla, done much better in other places.
I had to check this wasn't Cream.....whew!

Nothing special other than, as you admit, Eric and Duane on lead. ERIC AND DUANE ON LEAD.  You have uttered a sentence that has no meaning.  A double negative as it were.

Well your amp obviously doesn't go to eleven either, I'm sure.

Yes, poorly mixed, even the anniversary remix, but still one hell of an album.

I tried to remaster half of the album.  I could fish out the guitars, but the vocals are so thin and right on top of the guitars that the end product sucked.

Just gotta love it for what it is ...

I believe we're on a tear
Wow for all the bitching this song has a high rating. I give it a good 7.
Weak track on an otherwise great album. This version throws away any pretence at melody in favour of a tedious thrash with a pyrotechnic guitar solo that is just showing off how fast the notes can be played rather than trying to create something of beauty, emotion and expression, normally Eric's strengths.
I never really got into this era of Erics career. The vocals (harmonies ??) are too discordant for my tastes.

I think you are correct on this.  From what I've read, lots of coke and heroin amongst the proceedings.

Duane Allman really stinks this one up.

A great band but this song sucks, sorry my friends.

Would it kill them to sing in time?
I got the music in me! LOL

Sadly or not, my favorite music seems to have come from heroin addicts.

Me too, Westslope. I have about 10 cds of his but just had to turn this down a bit so I could concentrate.

This has always seemed just a wee bit too frenetic to me.
Not sure I know this one!
"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!"?

Au contraire, Derek: "No! No! No! No! No!" <click>
Rippin'
I still remember when this album was released.  I was in 10th grade and thought it was fantastic. Still do. This entire album rates a 10.

I never did get what all the fuss was about. I never thought she came close to "knock-out"status.

One account has poor George bragging to his mates, "Doesn't she remind you of Bridgett?" (And poor Cynthia and Maureen had to dye their hair to fit the stereotype.)

OK, so is every song on this album really about 'layla'? it's only the third one I've heard but the theme is getting a bit overbearing don't you think Eric??

isn't the album titled 'Layla and other assorted love songs'? can't say it was false advertising....i've heard worse-a lot worse 7
 rtrudeau wrote:

Or less of something.  This version always felt so "rushed" to me.  It's a good melody, but the production and mixing are muddy, which is surprising given that Tom Dowd worked on it.  Ultimately, it's just a noisy, cluttered mess but there's a good song in there.
Things would have gone better with less coke.

No. Self-affirmation, perhaps..................

The live version of this song which appears on "Derek And The Dominoes In Concert" is absolutely phenomenal! Give it a listen if you haven't heard it - and make sure it is LOUD! I blew out a speaker in my car listening to this live version on interstate 81 a couple of years ago. I was on my way to my friend's house for a weekend birthday bash, with the speedo wavering somewhere north of 90 MPH, pounding my fist on the steering wheel in time with the jam. Probably (well, definitely) not the smartest or safest way to drive, and ripe for a ticket at those speeds. I didn't care about any of that. It was one of those moments where you just think to yourself, man, life is GOOD!
Amen Brother!
Cookin'!
Exquisite!

Mr. Clapton has not exactly proven that he can stick with one person either, so your title would be more appropo for him.

Correction: With Clapton on smack, pining away for Patti Harrison, and Duane Allman riding the horse with him, some great art was made. This cut however, was not a part of that great art.
