Everything is free now
That's what they say
Everything I ever done
Gonna give it away

Someone hit the big score
They figured it out
That we're gonna do it anyway
Even if it doesn't pay

I can get a tip jar
Gas up the car
Try to make a little change
Down at the bar

Or I can get a straight job
I've done it before
Never minded working hard
It's who I'm working for

And everything is free now
That's what they say
Everything I ever done
Gotta give it away

Someone hit the big score
They figured it out
That we're gonna do it anyway
Even if it doesn't pay

Every day I wake up
Hummin' a song
But I don't need to run around
I just stay home

And sing a little love song
My love, to myself
If there's something that you want to hear
You can sing it yourself

'Cause everything is free now
That's what I say
No one's got to listen to
The words in my head

Someone hit the big score
And I figured it out
That we're gonna do it anyway
Even if it doesn't pay

"Recorded at Spotify Studios". Ha!
A nice and respectful cover. I still prefer the incomparable Gillian Welch, but this is worthy.
I have always liked this song, especially the sentiment behind it. As an artist (photography & music) I feel I have a right to earn from my creative efforts. I don't agree with all the copyright provisions, especially the time lengths on some things but artists work to create and for many that is their living just as much as it is for a plumber, lawyer, or other worker. The internet of course has made the "everything is free" attitude much more prominent and has caused the end of many large & small businesses.
That said though, the song itself is a good lament about artists trying to earn a living.  But I prefer Gillian's version. This one is a bit too slow for me. Still it's nice to see it covered.
Predisposed to like this song.
I like hearing the lyrics in a new way... Gillian Welch will be happy her song is out there!
