a great song from an excellent album
Sting is an all-time favorite and this song epitomizes his passion for humanity and beautiful music
Very nice lead from Talk Talk to Sting.

Sting played this song on September 11 in 2001 in Tuscany, Italy. He would have had best reason to cancel the concert but he didn't and I think he was right in doing so. Whenever I hear this song I remember 9/11 and I think it will be like this until the end of my days.

"It's hard for all of us, I'm angry, I'm confused, I'm scared and I don't want to give any meaning to this senseless act of violence. We sing this song for all those who have lost their lives." That was his message

Yeah, same here. I remember this well.
It was an incredibly suitable ending of a terrible day.
The intro reminds me of a Dream Theatre song. Something about shoreline; can't remember the title. It's just an observation; not a criticism. This song is older I believe.
One of his most inspired songs. In these days of war, it is a song to air every day---

Perhaps this final act was meant,

To clinch a lifetime's argument

That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could

For all those born beneath an angry star

Lest we forget how fragile we are

Masterpiece!!!

Arguably his best post-Police song, up there with "Fields of Gold".

I would add "They Dance Alone (Cueca Solo)" to that list. Heartbreaking.

It's a beautiful song in it's own right but even more poignant during the September 11 performance.  Makes me pause in the beauty and message.
the stevie treatment

An 8 from me (for now), but I can certainly see how some folks could rate this at 9 or 10. It really is a fine piece of work.
