Into the Shadowlands, something compelling me
How can I understand what it is telling me?
Here in the waiting room,
Spinning my black cocoon
Silken and seamless, dormant and dreamless
Where do you go now that nothing can grow?
What will you do
When no one can break through?
How do you play when the sky becomes gray?
What do you say when reason slips away?
Into the Shadowlands, shrouded in ebony
Holding out both my hands, I am Persephone
Tasting the ruby seeds, question my sanity
What is the penalty for my humanity?
Where do you go now that nothing can grow?
What will you do when no one can break through?
How do you play when the sky becomes gray?
What do you say when reason slips away?
Sun is a red balloon,
Fractures this frozen tomb
Out of captivity flows creativity
Where did you go when nothing would grow
What did you do
When no one could break through
Now we will sing and welcome back the spring
Come out and play it’s beautiful today

Yes! I saw their final performance. One of the most underappreciated bands of the period.

Black Sabbath comes to mind.

Hi Eileen - Just came across your comment on RP.  You can learn more about Shadowlands at Shadowlands (shadowlandscalifornia.com).  My wife and I are half of the band and Mark and Karoline make up the other half.  A couple years ago, they moved to Karoline's homeland of Denmark.  We have done a couple of collaborations remotely but have not been able to sit in the same room and make music.  It was a rewarding time while it lasted when they happened to move to our town of San Luis Obispo.  You can hear more of our songs on streaming services.  We love RP for accepting out song and keeping it on the playlist.  Best, Bob (cello)

Nope, Shadowlands. I can't imagine how you managed to confuse the two bands. They sound completely different.

Yes, it does! I like many songs by Agnes Obel. It's funny how I found her. I mean, I admit I borrowed her cd based on the album cover. It just looked like something I would like.
I really like this song!

I suppose you would also say that regarding Islam, correct?

This song stays in my dreams ever since I heard it first time here. Lovely

I just love it when an artist comments on their own music here on RP. Hi Cello Bob!
Good song, cool cover art.

Seems to be working now gippy73.  Let me know if there are other shadowy issues.

The phrasing on the vocals - very pleasing on the ears.  {#Music}

I gave it a 8.

I often warn people not to try dancing to this one, unless they have Bulgarian ancestry.

I always think this is Tori Amos when it comes up and i reach for the PSD button - but then I hold off.

Insightful - an impressive, tightly presented analysis with good supporting reasons.

Intellectuals like you are a rare breed.

Dumb as a sack of rocks!

Actually, in this context, I'd love to be able to filter out all responses with nothing more substantive than "great", "crap" etc.
Hmm, Amazon links go to RP.  iTunes links go to music by Amethystium.  Covers don't match.

So good to see bands doing tracks named after themselves. This was a fine metal tradition (Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden) which needs to be revived and expanded. Imagine the possibilities! The War on Drugs. Of Monsters and Men. Boy and Bear. Other exciting ones?

Thanks Aud.  On this song, I simply learned what Karoline is playing on the piano and tracked three cello parts. In live shows, I switch between the three parts.

It's really neat to have the musicians appear in the comments and tell us something about how they put the song together.  Nice work on this one, my friend.

Good song with unusual rhythm, and local to me, but I wish they would go further with it, into Porcupine Tree territory, with some further development and possibly a little 4/4 respite with more rock overtones. Just wishful thinking. Nice song anyway.

Glad you are coming around on the song.  As for the other issues, I suggest you take a twenty minute nap and order a pizza.

There are two bands with very similar names - Shadowland and Shadowlands. Maybe twin love children?

It's lilting and playful like a lot of work  from those two greats, but the rhymes in this song are trite and predictable.

wow very nice!!....what Renaissance might sound like if still together....though a bit different than the fabulous Annie Haslam's voice.
At the beginning of the song, I thought it was Agnes Obel. It is as good as her.
I was wondering whether it was Tori Amos or Kate Bush!  Enjoyed it thoroughly anyway.
