I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gon' get up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend, the black man you been lovin',
girlfriend, can't get my room
I'm gon' write a letter, telephone every town I know
I'm gon' write a letter, telephone every town I know
If I can't find her in West Helena,
she must be in East Monroe I know
I don't want no woman,
wants every downtown man she meet
I don't want no woman,
wants every downtown man she meet
She's a no good doney,
they shouldn't 'low her on the street
I believe, I believe I'll go back home
I believe, I believe I'll go back home
You can mistreat me here, babe,
but you can't when I go home
And I'm gettin' up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom
I'm gettin' up in the mornin',
I believe I'll dust my broom
Girlfriend, the black man you been lovin',
girlfriend, can't get my room
I'm 'on' call up Chiney,
see is my good gal over there
I'm 'on' call up Chiney,
see is my good gal over there
If I can't find her on Philippine's Island,
she must be in Ethiopia somewhere
His covers of Highway 61 just kick ass. Especially the live versions from the 1980s.
I got hooked on playing slide by Johnny and Joe Walsh in the 70s. Moved from dime to penny to nickle to quarter on the turntable arm as I wore out the groves trying to capture even a smidgen of the technical prowness and soul that they laid down.
Was at that WinterLive show at the Swing in San Bernardino - 75 I think. Best show I've ever been to in over several hundred. That live album version of Hiwy61 has no equal for me.
RIP Johnny.
thats allright, eh?
It's terrible. He just plays the D chord over and over again.
the RP equivalent of the fat guy on the couch guzzling beer and eating chips while watching the Olympics and complaining when the gymnast only scores 9.5
Would much prefer Johnny on his own. Derek just ain't got it like Johnny's got it
Derek's got it, it's just something different than what Johnny got.
c.
started off with the 1951 version of
"Dust My Broom" by Elmore James.
Good way to end my listening session
on this 60th anniversary cover.

Which I could play a D chord like that.
Saw him way back in '71 at the Va Beach Dome. He knew a bunch of other chords and notes !
Just no soul or emotions or hooks with their guitar playing. It's so standard, by-the-formula.
Sounds like it was created by a computer.
The replies crack me up. The RP comment boards are a "safe space" as negative comments are surrounded by bees!
but you can't expect sarcasm to be detected with a blatant comment like that. (Though I assume it was not to be taken seriously)
Your name says it all! .....IDIOT!
Oh my!
People don't get satire!
Ok...I'll dumb it down.
Johnny Winter is very good.
The Winter Bros
This is another one of them songs in which you want to walk (or strut) the way it sounds. That would be cool.
that be it
we need more of this guy
his live versions of Dylan's Highway 61 smokes
Now THAT is a tune - the Live version...OMG.
Would much prefer Johnny on his own. Derek just ain't got it like Johnny's got it
To each their own - I like them both.
Well, you are certainly living up to the name YOU chose.
Ok ok
no more tongue in cheek
no more satire
Some folks just don't get it
Ugh
Don't forget he comes from a musical family. His brother is Edgar Winter of the 70's hits Free Ride and Frankenstein fame.
(Sadly, was the shiz. RIP 16Jul14)

I wish, I see people using computers more to shoot out hatred

Without knocking Johnny, "Dust My Broom" is such a fine tune that I have yet to hear a version I don't like, but I'm sure it gets massacred plenty. That said, the original Elmore James version is the real deal and RP will be all the better after playing it, LOL.
It was a life-changing experience - my first rock show AND my first unsupervised trip out of town.
RIP Johnny.

Idiot Wind indeed!
Know where I can get one of those computers?
zesty ! now seeing those two together would have been a show !Amen, sister. Seen them twice, and that's not enough.

I'd advise you to get yourself a new pair of ears. Only, I fear it would not serve as a remedy.

The slide part of the response sounds a lot like Elmore's style to me...
Johnny Godlike Winter

If you helped create the "formula" it stands to reason you sound a little like it. Johnny was an early master of amped up electric blues. A lot of people copied him. A lot of people still do.
