This CD came in second place in Village Voice's annual Jop and Pazz poll of polls.  First place was Kanye West (the fourth time he's won in six years, which makes him the most critically acclaimed artist of all time).

This should give anyone pause before they cite the music press as a "credible" source for anything.

Since the last time I heard this on RP, I've bought the album and listened to it 10-15 times - enough to feel like I have firm opinions about the songs. This is one of my favorites, but that's more because most of the other songs are meh than that this is particularly good. I like "Ya Hey" also, but the high-pitched squeaky part is SO UNBELIEVABLY ANNOYING and I have no idea what on earth they were thinking with that. Kind of a general theme on the album, really - "this song is mostly OK, but what on earth is that one part trying to do??". So it's overall kind of aggravating. And two of the songs are just downright bad.

In total, the album is certainly not music that appeals to the masses, and not because the masses have poor taste. I like hearing this song here but I feel that nothing on "Modern Vampires" can stand up to 90% of the stuff on their first two albums. Alas.

Possible reason:

1) LRC voting. (Click on the LRC/Upload tab for details.)

2) Bill and Rebecca preferred this one.  It is their radio station, after all.

Interesting use of a price stamper as a musical percussion instrument.
Your know what this is? It's nothing more than a bunch of high-class noodling in search of a song.
This band is vile. Stop them, someone, please....
I've never been able to like anything by this band. At times, such as with this song, I think I'd rather spend a weekend with vampires than suffer their output. TFF PSD.
They really changed directions with this release...the jury is still out though...
this is slowly growing on me...what is that odd percussive instrument that squeaks? I do like the interplay of voices

 exactly.  yawn..............

Oh dear ...

I think I'd rather hear Napolean XIV doing "They Are Coming To Take Me Away - Ha Ha", at least that's amusing.
This is exquisite.

And just like that, Bill follows this with some Paul Simon - Run That Body Down. Nice.
I haven't heard this band before, but I'm enjoying this.
One of the more famous rock crits gave this review an A+ and compared it, somewhat, to Sgt.Pepper.  I don't hear it, but I always felt this guy was full of shite.

I think, this Band will be a great Future

First!

Also, I like how this band has matured over the years.
