Have to agree! Great at extreme volume, back in the day.
All my time since Ziggy Stardust I have been subjected to mediocre, shreiking, and bellowing from David Bowie, who apparently is universally accorded something approaching genius status. There have been a few of his songs that I felt showed some originality, though not enough to justify the adulation he receives, and some nice tunes, but..really. This performance exemplifies his worst qualities. The warbling that passes for singing is nearly inexcusable. There is a version of heroes that gets lots of airplay that causes my brain to shudder. Rock music sure accepts some wretched vocal performances, no?
Bowie jumped the shark on this one.
When the song has more 1, 2, and 3 ratings than 8, 9, and 10 ratings, it might be time to retire it...

it always amazes me how Bill takes songs I consider mediocre and then uses them masterfully in a mix that somehow just WORKS

What? Disco started in about '75, remember the Bee Gee's, Abba, etc.? This was done in 1974!

I believe that 1984 is more about Orwell than about being gay. Kinda like :Warhol, as in holes.
I don't hear disco. But I do hear Love Boat.

What? 1984 is a Van Halen album. Bowie's single 1984 came out in '74 on the Diamond Dogs album.
Disco was not a good trend for anyone, even though Bowie comes out better than most. Related: I just watched Labyrinth again last night. The music he wrote for that was way better than this.

Please spare me from this awful song
Seriously. Imagine this song performed at an open mic night by a guy who thinks that passionate singing compensates for bad singing. It was horrible.
I keep hearing Shaft

bad bowie. 2/10.
The final nail in the coffin that is disco!
this is cool...is it me or does it sound a little like Zappa?
orwellian
Not one of my favorites from Bowie. Conceptually pedestrian. Always seemed like he mailed this one in.
Ah! Yes! 1984!
I was SURE I was about to hear Curtis Mayfield! But I'm okay with Bowie too... c.
yeah, another deep track from one of Bowie's best!
I've liked everything I've heard off this compilation. Have to pick it up.
