Listening to The White Stripes on Radio Paradise

Jack white can take any subject and write into music in any shape or form. I'm 75.
discovered him this last 5 yrs. Love him.

April 8, 2022 - Jack White plays National Anthem at Tiger Stadium on opening day and then plays Supply Chain Issues concert at Masonic Temple in Detroit. Man, I love me some Jack!!!

RP rarely converts me. I used to dismiss all his albums as whatever. But I ended up getting Jack White's latest album — totally in love. The one with the vulture sitting on his shoulder on the cover. It's crazy, but I hear the over-pedalled piano minor scale riffs in my sleep - it's become a brain obsession that I just can't shake.

What initially turned me off about The White Stripes was Jack White's near-hysterical vocals - always reminded me of "Ballroom Blitz" by The Sweet. I must be getting older, or maybe more mature in my listening habits, because this song didn't have me lunging for the mouse to click on the mute button. Hmmm. ${#Dancingbanana_2}$

Across his various (and varied) projects, this guy keeps offering up that great low-budget-no-apologies style of rockin' that reminds me of what it was like when it was real. I'm glad he's around.

I must be one of the last people in western civilization to have heard their first WS tune. Based on this initial experience, I like what I hear. It seems another band whose work I have recently encountered, The Raconteurs, has been heavily influenced by Jack Black's vocals and WS stylings, in general.

I haven't listent to the WS much, but I have liked what I heard. I can tell you about my buddy Scott who was a big WS fan, a total music snob, and a fantastic musician. He played primarily ragtime and pre-war blues guitar, and really well. He constantly bemoaned the lack of skill and poor taste of modern music, but the WS apparenlty made it into his good graces. As a mediocre musician, I really appreciate skill, when it isn't just skill for skill's sake (can't stand Satriani for example), and I really appreciate creativity. I think the WS seem to be trying to do something interesting, besides just selling records. But I'll have to spend more time listening to them to really judge.

I dont mind hearing them, but yet to have purchased any of their albums. As a musician I would only say that all music has it's place. To understand the music is to know the writer alittle more than you did just before you heard it. Would you ever walk up to your child who gave you a drawing and say that sucks, or do you take into consideration the meaning? Are you people out there in the world more about format or content?

Well I am about as far from a musician as you can get, tone deaf engineer, but I USED to agree with you. Subpar instrument playing and singing, but to catchy tunes. But after listinging to them alot, one of my brother's faveroite bands, I have changed my mind. I used to get hung up on the no bass, sorta hollow sound, with the sloppy guitar. But they have gotten better, and the piano on 'Get behinde me Satin' really filled in their sound so I started to listen to that album. Then I started to like their other music. Jack is amazing because he creates music the way it used to be. WS may sound like bands from the 70s but they have more of an edgy twist that make them an original that I can listen to anytime I want to get into a groove.

I saw The White Stripes at the end of January 2006 and I was struck by what a great showman Jack White has become. A very, very sexy man, and refreshing to see someone choose his own look instead of regarding Spinal Tap as a style bible. I cant remember him speaking more than a dozen words, but he held the audience in the palm of his hand. The audience displayed a very wide demographic range, showing the appeal of the band is very broad. Not sure Meg has much of a solo career ahead of her, however, when Jack pursues his 'other projects'!

The Doors never had a bass player until the end, when they used Elvis's old bassist: Jerry Scheff. But before Jerry, Ray Manzarek was a wiz at filling in the bottom of the rhythm section with the Fender Rhodes and flying feet working those foot pedals. Good watchin: KRCW set (click here) (64mb) Technically, the white stripes are poster children for bad music. They break the rules to make it work. For some, this doesn't make it, but if you can keep up it's very good stuff. One oddity about WS is that ryhthm and timing is not supplied by the percussion.

Nah - nonsense. I saw them live a couple of years ago - so before this song - but they were absolutely storming. Not sure what Meg adds to things, but Jack was in virtuoso form. It was definitely not wienerless!
