Who's gonna tell you when
It's too late
Who's gonna tell you things
Aren't so great
You know
You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight

Who's gonna pick you up
When you fall
Who's gonna hang it up
When you call
Who's gonna pay attention
To your dreams
Who's gonna plug their ears
When you scream

You can't go on
Thinking nothing's wrong
Who's gonna drive you home tonight

Who's gonna hold you down
When you shake
Who's gonna come around
When you break

Love this song, nice cover. For the record: "Written by Ric Ocasek, the track was sung by bassist Benjamin Orr and produced by Robert John "Mutt" Lange with the band. Upon its release, "Drive" became the Cars' highest-charting single in most territories."

Nice! Also, it makes me appreciate the staggering power of The Cars' original even more. Ocasek was a peerless songwriter, and Ben Orr's voice & bass are inimitable...

Indeed - and a sad loss to pop rock!

Sometimes the best thing about a cover version is not so much the new version, but just pointing out a song that deserves special notice as a great bit of songwriting, rather than just a recording by the original artist.

Don't think I ever noticed what a gorgeous sentiment this song represents.  Kudos to Ocasek for writing it, and for Ziggy for noticing.

you are absolutely right. I like the original version but I never paid attention to the lyrics till Ziggy's version. Very nice.
such a great cover. I love the original too. I say this cover is not better nor worse, it’s just so unexpected that it could be its own original.
Much better than the original

And kudos to Ben Orr for the beautiful original vocals.
Excellent rendition
I just bumped this up from 7 to 8. It's really calming and I like it as much as Ric's.
Whenever I hear this song, any version, a tinge of sadness for Benjamin Orr always hits me. And some gladness too, for the song he & Rick gave us.
Love the original. Love this cover.
Sent chills down my spine when I heard this. For people in the UK, the video from this will bring back painful memories -relates to the drought situation in Africa in the 80s (it's been commented on before, I know).
Upped to an 8. For a copy, this is really well done and cool.
Works for me.
I really enjoy this cover, but I think Aimee Mann really dialed the mood up a notch when it comes to the plaintive and longing nature of this one.

And to Benjamin Orr for perfecting it.
Every time I hear this song (Cars or Ziggy) I think of Edie Sedgwick. Such a shame.
There are just some songs that need to be left alone.

This is one of them

RIP: Ben ORR
reminds me of The Cars and Live Aid which I attended almost 38 years ago
♫ Who's gonna hold you down
When you shave ♫

hmmm...

Jeez... I can't click on the 'Skip' button quick enough.

It's all good!
An artist with average talent cashing in on his father's name.
Terrible version of a great song, done by a talentless tool riding on daddy's fame.
Adds nothing to The Cars and takes a whole lot away.
I fully expected not to like this, but, strangely, enjoyed it. A wholly unnecessary cover, but for all that an interesting take.

I do not understand how this song has a relatively low rating.

It's too jaunty for the lyrical content. Amazing Grace sung as Having My Baby.
Bad cover good cover whatever, it's not what you think about when you think about this song. For good or bad, thats the RP way!
The mix to this today from U2's One Tree Hill was superb!
Musically, it was perfect, the keys of the songs flowed perfectly (Dont know if its the same key or a complimentary transition) and the pacing was PERFECT
Consider One Tree Hill is about Greg Carroll, a friend of the band, who was killed in a motorcycle accident, then hearing "Whos gonna drive you home?" and I got MAJOR CHILLS
Kudos Bill you are one of a kind
I prefer the version "The cars"
I do not understand how this song has a relatively low rating.
I wasn't waiting for this.
Oh no - so bad
Refreshing reinterpretation
That reggae tempo ruins the  song completely.
Seems kind of cold to me.
What was Ziggy thinking!!.... ah yes the money!!!
Muzak for Jamaican grocery stores. Sigh...

Drive is one of those songs that just doesn't work as a cover, which can't hope to capture the emotional content of the Cars tune.  Not to mention it just doesn't work as Reggae song in any way, shape, or form.

Yeah...  I often appreciate a bold cover.  But just slapping a reggae beat on it doesn't make it a bold cover.

Not all songs suit conversion into reggae format but this works fine

Right?  What's with the low ratings?

Also a very difficult song to find. I had to break down and buy this album to hear this song.  Even on Spotify the song for the album is not Ziggy! Drove me nuts.

time to go to YouTube and see how it's really done. This version gets a 1.

I am going to hit the next button, this Song SUCKS
The Cars !!!!!! My eighteen old !!!!!!!!!!!
Coooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!
Like any Adam Sandler movie ever made this one gets a 3 unless it goes much longer...then we start thinking about reaching for a 2

Frustrating version because he's singing all the the "who's gonna..." lines with the same feeling, without using his vocal potential to hold the notes at the expected places, like "who's gonna drive you ho-o-o-o-o-o-me tonight". It sounds lazy compared to the original, therefore not matching the grade for me as a cover.

So you wanted him to cover this with exactly the same vocal interpretation as The Cars' original? {#Ask}

I do agree that he could have used his vocal potential more... in his own way, not as a carbon copy. And that this version sounds a bit lazy.

That said, it's not offensive - if not particularly exciting.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this did not need to be made.
Oh its not that bad.  The reggae beat has to make you smile.  Ric Ocasek should have thought of this for this song.

Reading through the comments, I see this one, and feel compelled to reply and agree with the sentiment.  Then I happened to notice who made the original comment!!!  LOL...

I'm glad I'm in agreement with myself.

Not felling it, Ziggy. Sorry. Feels like a wedding version of the song.
C'mon, it's just a stupid, sweet little love song. Lighten up!
No. Just no.

Gif of Sesame Street Ernie and Bert looking shocked

Despite Ernie's demented cackling, Bert's soul is driven by the purity of aaronm's true words to cleanse this sordid world of mediocre reggae covers.

Repent, ye sinners!
I originally rated this a 1, but I appear to be in more mellow place today and I'm quite enjoying it.  It is lifting my brow off the top of my nose and de-stressing my forehead, so I can only apologise for my earlier rudeness.  Take a 5 for your trouble today, Mr Marley and thanks for the mellow vibe.
I think the only reason I like this at all is that I love the original so much.

Great version of a song that changed the world - July 13, 1985

This is a perfect example of "ATBGE" ... Awful Taste But Great Execution.  Nicely performed, good recording quality, but overall I hate it.

Nothing new here. Why bother?
Give me a break. This is hard on the ears.
Wow, thanks Zig, this is a great version!
There's a reason why this song version has a 4.3 listener rating
Interesting cover choice.
Not a bad cover at all.
I think I like this.
