When I come to terms, to terms with this
When I come to terms with this
When I come to terms, to terms with this
My world will change for me

I haven't moved since the call came
Since the call came I haven't moved
I stare at the wall knowing on the other side
The storm that waits for me

Then the Seated Woman With A Parasol
May be the only one you can't betray
If I'm the Seated Woman With A Parasol
I will be safe in my frame

I have no need for a sea view
For a sea view I have no need
I have my little pleasures
This wall being one of these

Then the Seated Woman With A Parasol
May be the only one you can't betray
If I'm the Seated Woman With A Parasol
I will be safe in my frame

When I come to terms, to terms with this
When I come to terms with this
When I come to terms with this whip lash
Of silk on wool embroidery

Then the Seated Woman With A Parasol
May be the only one you can't betray
If I'm the Seated Woman With A Parasol
I will be safe in my frame

Then the Seated Woman With A Parasol
May be the only one you can't betray
If I'm the Seated Woman With A Parasol
I will be safe in my frame
I will be safe in my frame
In your house, in your frame

It's about the death of her brother

I'm sure she's distraught over this...especially every time she goes to the bank.

Unfortunately, I agree. There's some nice tone in there and its exactly the sort of thing I *should* like - but to me, she's an anaemic Kate Bush....
Not dissing other's likes tho - things would be pretty boring if we didn't have different tastes!

She doesn't care.

I like Paula too, quite a lot, but to my ears there's no comparison. In fact, it's when listing to artists like Paula or Vienna that I often get the urge to hear Tori's music. Usually, it's the simpler piano playing that leaves me wanting more. 8 > 9 for the link to her brother's death.

I will admit that I wasn't paying attention to her emerging music when Tori hit the scene. I didn't listen to the awesome RP-like diversity of music when she earned accolades and awards. I was in my post-rock DJ 'I'm done with music' phase. Looking back, I now regret "missing" so much great music in the 90's and after, while raising kids and watching cartoons.  Still, I just don't get all of the haters and low ratings. She has an amazing voice that is worthy of recording. Any gifted musician and vocalist deserves a 5 or better for effort, in my opinion, even if you don't care for that tune or their sound. I know, "to each his own," but I just don't happen to believe in ultra-low ratings for art.

I cannot come to terms with Tori Amos.

My kind of Beekeeper!

Does that mean you that like her music or that you dislike it?
A haunting depiction of her experience following her brother's death.

My feelings exactly. Tori always sounds so affected. Sarah and Kate leave her in the dust.

Sentiment seconded. Tori Amos is certainly talented and I wouldn't say a bad thing about her...but somehow she (her singing) just doesn't do it for me. This is the first song of hers I've actually kinda liked. Would definitely be interested to hear others cover her songs. Aimee Mann, Loreena McKennitt, Fiona Apple rock this genre way better than Tori.

Ok, at least we've confirmed the smirk. I thought I'd have to recant that statement as well. Now if you could just direct me to the land of bourbon and horses... I have some vacation time coming up.

I gave it a 2. So we average out to 5.5...mystery solved.... I usually like tori a lot, but this sucks.
Intellectually I ought to like Tori Amos. But I just can't. So that means it's a good time to turn off RP for the day. (It's not Tori's fault though—I always turn it off at 4:00. She just makes it really easy to do so today.)

When I come to terms, come to terms with Tori Amos... Maybe then I'll understand why I have this irrational fondness for her incredibly pretentious music.

I think as a Neil Gaiman fan, one of the big draws of Tori is her ability to evocatively execute acrobatics between emotionally charged "everyday" images and mythology / religion / jungian-style symbolism. Besides, what a great model for Delerium
PERFECT!
this song doesn't the album justice. Take a listen to the other tracks here, they're worth it.
The bass alone gets at least a "6".
Is it over yet? Gosh, I just can not enjoy Tori... this song in particular really grates on my last-end-of-a-long-week good nerve.
Her music stills annoys me after all these years...

Yeah, she's not actively repelling me with this one. Still, she's not attracting me either and she's still Tori Amos. On the whole, a 2, I think.
I must have missed the first 10 seconds of this the first time around. "When I come to terms...to terms...to terms..." Oh, and the smirk on the cover. Pretentious much?

I used to like her very much. But since RP introduced me to other female songwriter (Ani, Teagan & Sara ...), I'm much less impressed by Tori's work. Actually, It might just be that Tori's merely the most publicized of the lot for her complacent attitude. Anyone?

Love the music, love the tempo, love the bridge and chorus.... just can't stand Tori's voice. It bothers me enough to completely dislike the song. Maybe when someone covers it I may enjoy it more.

Tori Amos is such an incredibly talented woman - she is an amazing writer, her lyrics are total poetry, she is an incredible pianist and her vocals are like liquid magic. Without a doubt one of the most intelligent, creative performers. As far as I am concerned, this is one of the best tunes on the CD. Her live performance on this tour was also outstanding. YAY Tori!

This song, as well as a few others on the album, deal with the death of Tori's brother in a car accident. I am always happy to hear Tori!

I suspect there are a few people here who automatically give Tori a 1.... I on the other hand like most of Tori's stuff.
Love her red hair...

Great song by a great artist, possibly the best female artist in the world today! Although her latest album (this one, "The Beekeeper") is not my favorite one off her catalogue, it sure is a great record! Thumb up!

Nope. A 3 would be generous. Contrite, boring, and typical.

heheh. ironic, as the actual lyrics are "the only one you can't betray." oh well. glad you liked the song.
I have disliked every other Tori Amos selection I had heard so far. But this one I mostly like. On this one, she sounds so different--more like the lead singers of the folk-revival groups of the 1970s. I could say that I like the verses a lot but the refrain not so much. I didn't like some of the phrasings--the ones that sounded more like pop music ("the only one that can't be tried," etc., refrain), but I did not understand the criticism of Amos's enunciation. Jesus Christ I hate Tori Amos. This song is just one example. Her singing is annoying, her tones monotonous, and her songs redundant. What a piece of garbage.
As mixed as my feelings are about The Beekeeper, I like this one a lot. And the Philip Glass segue was a nice touch. please please please no more Torn Anus jokes. seriously. they would be unfunny even if she hadn't been raped.

Yep...I've given her several chances, and I still can't stand the way she sings...yeah, she's in tune, but it's the way she enunciates that incenses me.

We could do without Tori in the middle of this great set.

Excuse me, I need to go find some ear plugs. Yuck.
Though talented, she is not my fav. I gave up depression long. Will mute this song!

Screech, screech, screech.... gawd, please make it stop. Nothing like Tori Amos to get me out of my office micro-managing the subs. Yikes!
Wonderful. I hook up my laptop to the wireless network at my mother-in-law's farm, and I hear Pink-Floyd, Philip Glass, and Tori Amos in sequence. Blilliant, what a setup.

Strange as Matt Chamberlain is one of my favorite drummers (and I am a big fan of drummers)... the first minute or so of the song did sound programmed. Picked up as the song went along and I heard the MC I know and love... Sort of strange, this song has a bit of a (slight) trip-hop vibe at points. I've liked everything I've heard from the album but this is at the very top of that list. Makes it easier to shell out the $60/ticket tomorrow I'm going to be spending for the NYC show. Cool.
